Default Is a B16a1 as big of headache as it seems???

Okay Im no retard,
I know enough about swapping engines as I need to, and plan on doing a b16 swap you know the usual in my 90 dx. But God friggin damnt alls I hear is how hard it is...especially for a dx...I dont feel like paying a shop to do it for me since I dont trust them for one and dont have the cash either.
If you did the swap..especially in a b16 how long did it take you and what was the hardest part???

Plus-Import auto salvage-I talked to larry he said hed get me the whole swap including the hasport custom mounts, linkage, and ecu......for 2400...(That price makes me go YIKES)
JdMhondaparts is asking for 1350 and it includes the axles and mounts linkage...everythign else too anyone buy from them???

It is somewhat of a pain to swap in the b16 to a dx, but if you take your time it is worth the effort. The price from importautosalvage sounds a little hig. I bet you could find a better deal. The jdmhondaparts swap is cheap because the mounts are useless when swapping into our civics/crxs You will have to buy a mount kit in addition to the swap. Expect to pay around 2500-3000 depending on what you replace when you put the motor in.

Yeah I was planning on saving 3000 just for the swap...but I want a good deal on a full swap....1350 is good enough for me....

Would it be worth it to have a shop do it to save myself the headache??? How much should I expect a shop to install it for....$1000?

The only headaches, would be the bitch pin taking out the old shiftlinkage, and putting the new one in, connecting the tranny bracket to the rear mount, and wiring, but wiring can be avoided with the purchase of a harness.

The pin on the tranny is no problem if you use the right tool for the job. You need what is called a "roll pin punch" Its a punch that has a half ball on the end of it so the punch doesn't drive into the pin and spread it out making it impossible to get out. I used a bolt and nut setup with a lock washer when putting mine back for ease of removal later down the line. The B16 is a good engine, but don't expect nut wrenching speed from one. All of us who have done the swaps must admit, we did expect a little more from a stock engine. Nothing a little 50 shot can't handle though. As far as ease of the swap, it wasn't all that hard, the wiring can get complicated if you don't take your time and do you homework. O and when you get it started get ready to troubleshoot your idleing problems. Worth the money? I guess so, A B18 is sounding kinda good to me right now, but thats coming from someone who did a D16 swap to a ZC swap then to a B16, all in the same car. One more thing, if you like the fuel milage that these hondas supposedly come with don't get the S1 tranny, I think my 78 ford truck with a big block burns less gas on the highway.

I dont know why people bash it, but its a great match for the ED chassis car. Its lightweight, and has a great power to weight ratio in stock form. My only recommendation would be the HCP mount kit with the adjustable linkage, and definitely ditch the stock exhaust, as it is too restrictive to work with the b16a engine.

The major headache IMO was replacing the knuckles and hubs from my std. 4spd for 5spd ones, that was the only part that gave me any trouble at all. Other than that, as long as you have the right tools the swap will go as smooth as a shaved hoo-hoo.

buy the place kit, the crossmember, and the shift linkage, and then Zdyne ECU one wire VTEC conversion, rent an engine hoist from u-haul, and your done.

Default if you're mechanically inclined

then the swap should be no problem! The hardest part in my opinion is the wiring. Considering that you have a DX!

Just follow the directions on HASport and you'll be fine for the DX wiring. Just make sure you have an Si wiring harness on hand to pull plugs off of.
