does it throw any codes? check that first to make sure if its working properly. and a little info, i've notice on sohc motors, vtec is very little noticable compare to dohc. good way to test is cruise on freeway at night time and drop it to a lower gear and slowly let your rpm go up to vtec engagement point and see if you hear a difference.

it has no CEL's. and its in an ex coupe so everything is pretty much stock.
my hatch has the same exact engine/exhaust and its a noticable difference when it hits v tec. it doesnt crack load but it gives a different tone.

Check the vtec wire with a voltage tester and see if its giving the solenoid power, if so replace the solenoid.

Pathetic that these guys can't figure out what he meant, instead of "load" substitute the word "loud" and it makes perfect sense...go figure, eh?

Out of all the members of this site, you least of all should be using words like "pathetic" to describe anyone other than yourself.

he said his hatch is louder. maybe the ex sound deadners effect the noise? maybe..anybody think so? just a thing that just pop in my head. might help. good luck.

pretty stock D16Z6 here as well... in messing around with wiring (gutted car+boredom) put in that LED on the A4 pin on the ECU... the Coupe just isn't all that much louder when VTEC does kick. it is a wee bit louder once you hit it (5k 5200 rpm?) but not much...

best bet is to check the voltage, or try the LED http://www.hazone.com/hvlight.htm
