Default Another n00b, inquiring about engines. Gawd, the n00bs just keep crawling out of the woodwork

First, yes, I am a n00b
Second, I have searched and gone many pages looking for an answer to my question, but havn't seen it.

In the VERY near future, I'll be taking ownership of a 5sp 4dr Civic, between the years of 98-02 (Now, I know that 98-00 was the last generation, and not relevant to this board. I asked this same question in the previous generation, relating to the B series engine). After doing some research, I know that this generation uses the K series.

I'm thinking about getting an engine swap. Experience has told me that stock engines usually don't meet my requirements (listed below)

1) acceleration. No matter where in the world you go, there's stop lights/signs

2) power. I live in a mountaneous area, so I when I come up to a hill, I want to be able to continue my current speed (bout 110km/h), and then be able to pass other cars rapidly (the passing lanes are short)

3) torque. Where I live I get a lot of snow storms. There have been many times I've had to come home from work on uncleared roads, and drive up a mild hill to my house. So an engine with lots of power at low speed to get me through the snow is gonna be helpful.

I am NOT looking for speed (there's not really any place to drive fast around here), and I WON'T be driving at high rpm's (the fastest I've gone is 160km/hr, bout 4000rpm).

So my question is, what engine would be the best suited to fit my requirements?

Thanks for your replies

A k2x series swap will help you out with that. Now Im assuming youre talking about getting the NON-Si 01+ civic, if so keep reading. If not, check out the RSX DC5/EP3 Si forum.

2 parts to this one. #1, Boost. A good kit, with maybe a hybrid t3/t4 housing, about a .50 trim, pushing about 13-16 lbs of boost would absoloutely scream on a K
#2, the suspension mods to handle going through a corner at that speed. Shocks, springs, sway bars, bushings, wheels and tires, strut bars, and engine dampers will all help you get there.

Well, you can have all the torque you could want, but in a snowstorm, If you have no way to apply that to the ground, what good is it. So invest in a set of good solid snow tires for the harsh canadian winters. Even still, a good solid turbo kit will help you acheive better numbers than a NA most of the time, if you know what youre doing. But you will have the lag of a turb's motor as compared to the instant boost provided by a N/A or supercharged car.

K20 or K24 in an EM2 will simply be a monster, because I believe its lighter than the EP3.

Its a high revving motor, with potential for very good acceptance of bolt ons and tuning. Boost is running rampant on these motors, as it is very ewasy to get 400??? hp out of a Turb'd K.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna sound stupid here, but what do you mean by "NA"?

Naturally Aspirated, meaning, non-boosted intake pressure.

if u arent interested in High RPM's and super high HP. I suggest a k24a1, they can be found for VERY cheap, have HUGE torque, i believe its like 160hp and 140trq, and they dyno around 150-155whp/135-140wtrq from a few dyno's ive seen in stock form! Minor bolt ons yeilded 175whp/150wtrq, very respectable. But if that isnt enough id go k24a2 its like a k20a2 with .4L more discplacement. They are both rated at 200hp, because the k24a2's head flows a little worse, but it makes up for it in the torque.

Any k24 in an em2 will require a k20 tranny. Be it 5 or 6 speed. Hasport has not yet released its k24 tranny kit i dont think.
