sounds like a bad battery, is it still hooked up, the only other thing it could be is bad connections, you should have to wires from your positive terminal, one to the starter the other to the fuse box, and its properly grounded? anything unusual you noticed?

Lead-acid batteries can develop internal shorts which would cause them to explode... my '91 Accord did the very same thing a few years ago. The wife went to start it, and BOOM... dented the underside of the hood. Hydrogen gas is vented from the battery as it is being charged and can collect in the engine compartment, or even build up inside of a 'sealed' battery case. Sounds like what happened to you.

The only time I ever had this happen was by shorting my miata's battery witha jack in the trunk. I replaced the battery and the main fuses and all was fine. What year was the battery?

I went and checked it out earlier today.. the positive terminal of the battery touched the engine bay and melted a hole thru it..... the mount came off somehow and the battery toppled over .. the ground wire for th abttery is melted but the positive wire is fine.. everything else seems fine.. gonna get a new battery and ground wire tomorrow and hope it works..

replaced the battery , and battery ground wire.. everything is fine now..

it looks like the mount was loose and the battery toppled over.. the positive terminal hit the wall of the engine bay and thats when it all went to **** the positive terminal actually burned a hole thru the engine bay about a half inch in diameter
