Default Need help w/ my miller sync. 200

Hey guys, a while back I purchased a brand new miller sync. 200 and didn't get to try it out due to my busy schedule. At the time, I also didn't have the money to get the house wired. Anyway, I finally got the house wired and I decided to try out my welder. The machine turns on but for some reason i can't get an arc started. The work clamp is properly grounded and the torch and foot control are also properly connected. The torch just doesn't produce an arc when I press on the foot pedal. After I release the pedal, I do hear the postflow noise. I'm also using a 2% thoriated tungsten. I have the machine set to DC electrode negative and the process I selected is TIG. Do you guys have any ideas of why I can't get an arc started? Any possible things I should check? If it's a wiring issue, how can I check to see that the job was done right? Thanks guys. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Does it only do it with a hifreq start? Or does it work with lift-arc?

I'm guessing so because from what I understand the machine is always on Hifreq start. I don't have a switch like some of the other welders to switch on and off of Hifreq. The only thing I can do is change the starting characteristics of the tig HF. Right now, I have it on DCEN Med. I apologize if I'm confusing you, but I'm just not sure how or when I can select lift arc. Thanks for your help man.

Try tapping the tungsten on the work before you hit the pedal, mine did that for a while but if I tapped the tungsten and then hit the pedal it'd work.

I just tried doing that and still nothing. I don't want to, but I might have to get a service agent to come look at this thing.

I tried what K24em2 said I should try and that happened twice. It made a huge spark and left a hole in the metal. I cleaned the material and the tungsten and got nothing. I tried tapping the tungsten on the work again and nothing happened. I guess it only happens sometimes. Well, thanks for the help guys. If i get this figured out, I'll post what the problem was.

this may be a silly suggestion, but you had mentioned your clamp was grounded. I dont know if it makes any difference. but on mine. i have the clamp as + and the torch hooked up to the - port.
