Default Oil Filter

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the oil filter from the engine block? I have tried hand-loosening and tried a filter wrench and i am still unable to loosen the filter.

id say the filter wrench is the best bet, if the filters not that old and bad id say put some cheap oil in the engine and start the engine to get the engine warm to try and break the seal.

ok, i know this is gonna sound kinda tacky. I have the filter wrench that fits onto the end of a ratchet. I'd put an impact wrench or breaker bar on it and remove it that way. it's a tight fit under the IM but might work.

Free way: Take a screwdriver, hammer it into the filter, and use the handle as leverage to loosen the oil filter. Make sure you wear goggles because oil will most likely end up all over you and your face.

Cheap, but not free way: Get a tool that looks like a handle with a metal circular strap connected to it. I use one of those and have never had a problem getting my oil filters off.

dont deform the filter with the screwdriver method...you wont beable to use the wrench any more, just use a extension on the rachet if you have to.

It's what I use at work and there hasn't been a Honda filter yet that I haven't been able to loosen between the two tools and some patience.

The hardest oil changes are the '02 to '06 CR-V's and '06 Civic Si's. TSX's and RSX's are kind of a pain as well.

HAHA...LMFAO. IF you think those are hard, i would suggest doing some oil changes on pretty much ANY volkswagon or RX300/v6 highlander. I ******* HATE THOSE CARS. When i honda comes in all i can think of is relief. Hondas and MOST GM's are SO easy to do.

the absolute best way to get that sucker off... is to get a leather belt... like the kind you wear around your stomach. and wrap it around but leave enough hanging cause your gona pull on it. make sure to have it on so it loosens when you pull on it not tightens.... also if you want to go even further spray some bolt loosener spray of any type where the filter meets the block. but make sure not to get any on the filter cause then the belt wont hold on as good.

it always works for me. it always works for all the mechanics i know. it always works!
you can put your body weight on to it....

make sure that when you put the new filter that you get a dab of oil and put it on the rubber seal so that it doesnt stick in the future. and when you change it again in the future your hand will be enough.

i just use those tennis racket wraps or those big band rubber bands the really tacky ones and wrap it around the filter or my fingers. grip seems to be the only problem in that tight space but it help me
