Your 97 Civic is OBD2. (not OBD2a)

The GSR motor could be OBD1, OBD2, or OBD2a depending on the year.

In many states your OBD version must remain the same as what came with your car if you replace any parts.

If the car and motor are both OBD2, you can use an OBD2 computer OR an OBD1 computer with a conversion harness.

no...
there are 2 versions of obd2
A and B
A, is 96-98...
It would be important to know this when buying a cnversion harness, since the two use different pinout connectors
