Default B18C5 Tranny Swap for B18C1?

Quick question guys. I have a 96 GSR and I've scraped my tranny housing to it. AHMotor wants $285 for a new housing itself. My local Acura dealer wants upwards of $400. My car isn't lowered too much but I was being pulled over by a cop and scraped the bottom end pretty badly. There's a slow leak but it's not going to get any better.

Do you think it's feasible for me to swap out trannies for the B18C5? Or should I just get a new housing and save some money? What else would I need to change other than the tranny if I do decide to swap them? Thanks for the answers fellas.

You dont need to switch anything but the tranny, but while you have it off, might as well replace the clutch if its going. You are looking at about $1200 for an ITR tranny. But you can sell your gsr tranny for a good amount as well.

Gear ratios are different.

Type-R tranny has LSD as well, GSR does not.

That's not true, the USDM Type R has it also.

just FYI
redline has nothing to do with the transmission.
its how high the engine can rev and still produce power/not explode.

You can redline as far as your ECU lets you... Even if there is no limiter, without an upgraded valvetrain + bottom end, it's not a good way to go...

You could just buy a 99-00 Civic SI transmission. It has the same gear ratio as a Type R. Only thing it doesn't have is LSD and the Type R flywheel is lighter.

The 99-00 Si tranny is the Y21, it actually has a shorter first gear than the ITR tranny. I've got one from a Civic SiRII so it has LSD mated to a built GSR motor it's a Bangin Allmotor combo, only downside is watching the Tach sit at 4k at 70mph. A nice comprimise is the Y21 with GSR 5th or just change out your FD to the JDM ITR 4.785:1. But you'll notice a big change with that tranny if you were to switch to the Y21, with that tranny and stock GSR cams in my built GSR motor I raced an EK9 with a Turbo B16* and he couldn't even pull a full car length on me. Also JB Weld is an epoxy for metal, it's actually pretty good stuff, the hardware or Autoparts store should be able to get you straight on using it.

So taking it to a normal welding place wont cut it? I should use JB Weld?
