Default I think my power wire is way to big?

Ok so I'm really not to big on stereos, but I had this amp and sub laying around so I decided to throw it in. Well I didnt have a power wire so I borrowed one from a friend but its huge, like 0 guage im assuming its like the size of my pinky finger. I've been trying to find a 2 prong connection to connect the power wire to my amp, but no luck.

Should I just get a smaller power wire? Its a 600 watt amp if that matter?

You could get the same power from an 8 gauge or at the most, a 4 gauge wire.

i would go with a 4 guage cable if your running more than 8 ft. or longer

you shouldn't be running the wire directly from the batt to the amp...

it should go...

Batt -> 8-12in -> fuse (ANL) -> 0/4 wire -> fused distribution block -> 4/8 guage -> amp

that way you can still use the 0/2 gauge wire you got from your friend, because at the distribution block, the wire is converted into smaller guage wiring

this way if you ever decide to upgrade amps you still have the 0awg wire available. or even if you get a second amp for speakers, another sub, etc, get a distribution block and make sure its fused or else boom boom no more electronics for that honda!

There is nothing wrong with running too big a wire, only too small. Yes, it's more work and more small parts to convert the sizing with distribution blocks and stuff, but that way you don't have to buy more unnecessary wire that will have more resistance than your nice-*** scrap 0g.

Any body that reads this, Steer clear of his advice,lol. I bet you didn't even use a groment to run the power wire thru the firewall. Or went thru the factory one. Your battery is a waiting time bomb. I feel sorry for your audio equipment.

yeah this guy is a real jackass...once his rubber coating wears off his undersized power wire and it shorts...without a fuse bye bye electronics, and bye bye battery, alternator, voltage regulator. basically any electronic component in the car..

mhart, let me know when the fireworks show starts!

But to answer your question I would run 8 gauge because that is probably all that will fit in the amp.

You can still run the 4g all the way through and then step down to 8g right before the amp.

Or you could just run 8g. Don't know what we're debating anymore.
