Default will someone please tell me how long these tires will last

i know this isn't very tech related but i don't know who else to ask. i found these wheels and tires and im concerned how long the tires will last. he claim that they have 40% life left in them. the tires are azenis. about how many events will they last. i will only drive to the autoX, race, and drive home. about 140 mile round trip and 7 runs at the event. approximately how long will they last. i know this is only a guess but i just don't want to use them twice and have to buy new.

my azenis lasted over a year with dd and auto-x , if you are only using them for auto-x they should last quite a while, they are pretty tough tires

Your link requires registration to view, which discourages anyone from reading it.

One thing that helps at estimating is to measure the tread depth. It's very difficult to estimate tread depth from a photo (and stated percentages are often wrong). Measure it. Azenis come with 8/32" of tread depth when new; you can interpolate from other folks experience at how many miles and events you get to a set from new, deciding how low you're going to run them (i.e. 2/32", or 0/32" - bald - if they're only used for autocross), and adjusting your calculation for the actual tread depth. For example, if you find out that the tires actually have 4/32" of tread depth, and you run them down to 0/32" of tread, then they have 50 percent of their life left (4/32 divided by 8/32" is 50 percent); if folks say you can get 10 events and 1400 street miles from when they're new, you can expect to get 50 percent of those numbers for the set.

It's not very helpful to quote time without stating numbers of events or mileage. Maybe you ran one autocross and drove 200 miles in daily driving during that year. Or maybe you ran twenty autocrosses and drove 50,000 miles in daily driving during that year. Care to be more specific?

you can kind of see the wheels in the pics. they are del sol wheels that are painted black and have a polished lip.

That's not 40% tread, it's more like 15%. They are well into the wear bars, so there is probably about 1/32" of tread. The fronts have a lot of outside shoulder wear. They're probably heat cycled out by now if they started out at 8/32" and have been driven on the street regularly, so they won't grip as well as a fresher tire. They'll last a few events, but won't be optimal.

That first photo clearly shows that the tire has no more than 2/32" of tread left. That's the tread depth at which the treadwear indicator bars appear flat across. You can see that they are flat across at the inside and middle of the tread, and are just reaching that point at the outside of the tread.

As I mentioned:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by nsxtasy &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">One thing that helps at estimating is to measure the tread depth. At 2/32" of tread, they have no more than 25 percent of their life left for autocross (if you run them till they're bald), and they're illegal for street use. You can buy a new set for $252. No way they're worth $200, unless the wheels are included. I think essex is generous; I don't think the tires are even worth $60.

Don't buy them. Save your money, and when you can afford it, get a new set of Azenis (which are better than the Hankooks). And if you're then buying wheels too, get 15".

If i were you i would take the $200 and put it towards some new tires and slap them on some steel wheels if you're on a budget instead of worrying about the delsol wheels. That way you get good tires instead of nice wheels and dead tires.

lol yes I was being generous lol

were i live i will have to pay for shipping and that is $45 and then to have them mounted is another $45. so that is $340.
then i have to find some wheels which will probably be around $150. so that is $490. Plus i still have to find the wheels.

I guess i was hoping to buy these now and use them for the remainder of this year and then buy new ones next year. but if they will not even last through this year then i don't want to mess with them.

and yes, the wheels are included.

How many more events do you plan to attend this year?

They should last you the rest of the year without cording (if you aren't alignment-challenged), but they're technically illegal for the street and will be useless in rain. And as I said before, the grip level will be noticeably less than that of a fresher set.

i would still think that they would be better than the falken ZIEX tires that i have now.
i guess in the worst case i could buy these for $200 and buy new tires (shipping and mounting) for 320 =$520 and that would still be less than the $650 for everything new. the only difference is these are 14" and the new ones would probably be 15"

My Azenis are rated on the tire as a wear level of "200" Meaning that the lower the number the shorter "life" of the tire(this is compare'n them to ur average tire which has around 300-400 rated if not more depending on the application)... IMO then generally tend to last about a year if not longer, depending upon driving conditions and how often you rotate them.

I have been doing some tire research and reading reviews in preparation of getting back into autocorss...somewhere I was reading where people thought the azenis rubber got harder toward the end of their life and didn't give them the same performance as new. Anyone run into this???

Yes, of course. New tire rubber &gt; old tire rubber

Just a thought- make sure it doesn't threaten to rain during your autox day since you are about 70 miles from home. The used tires look like they would make rain driving very interesting.

Treadwear ratings are notoriously unreliable.

In my experience, the Azenis (both old and new) most commonly last 10-12K miles with aggressive street use. Some people get more, some less, and it varies from one car and size to another, but that is a common number. With most brands of tires, 10-12K miles is what you would expect of a treadwear number around 100, rather than 200. (For example, the Bridgestone Potenza RE010, the stock tire on the ITR, typically gives about 50 percent more mileage than the Azenis with similar use, yet carries a 140 treadwear rating.)

I happen to believe that Falken intentionally assigned a 200 treadwear rating to the Azenis because that is the number required for certain racing series. I have no indication of that, other than sheer conjecture on my part.

In any case, my intention in pointing this out is only to caution not to conclude anything from that treadwear rating. I am not knocking the Azenis, which is about the stickiest street tire you can find (for dry pavement). I recommend them all the time to folks who are looking for that.
