Default 96 EX Swapped D15b--> Axles won't fit!!!

Just finished my JDM D15b Swap on my 96 Civic EX. Both D16y8 motor(spun bearing) and the S40 Tranny (no 5 gear) died. Picked up a D15B Vtec and a S20 CX tranny for cheap. Car is running but the damn axles won't fit! They seem to be a bit too long. Am I on Crack??!!!! I thought I could swap tranny's w/o having n e issues? I can put my finger into the shaft entry and can tell my S40 has the available room for my orginal axles... Aren't all 92-00 axles interchangeable?

Sorry for the long story? A bit confused and searched for most of my lunch break! I need some knowledge por flavor!

what part are the axles too long for? do they not go all the way into the tranny? if they dont you need to push them in hard so they pop in, took me a while to figure that out the first time i worked on a car like 4 or 5 years ago

Well, it sounds like I'm hitting some pinion inside the tranny. When I replaced my clutch a few months ago... it wasn't that hard to just "push" the axles back into the tranny. And, I just did a quick "measurement" w/ my finger on the cx tranny and the distance to the point where I can't go any deeper is less than on my old S40 tranny. What does anyone think about this? There's definitely 2 inches to clear to get the axle installed correctly.

hammer that **** in, sometimes they get stuck. All d series axles should be the same. Maybe look at the ring on the end of the axle that goes into the tranny. It may be messed up and damaged.

eh, you were right... I took a rubber mallet and gave it a love tap ! That got them in nice and quick! Filled her up w/ some Honda MTF... and get this, I got the tranny from a friend... he said it came from an EX... BLAH it's from a CX!!! Can you say, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG Gears! Sad! Anyhow, I'm running!
