if i understand you correctly, my guess is your clutch is going out; aka slipping

1. shift up
2. step on it
3. rpm goes but car doesn't
4. after a few second, the car finally picks up speed

the answer to your other question is 750 +/- 50 rpm at idle

i honestly don't know of any shops because i replaced my clutch with the help of couple of grease monkey friends.

shops usually charge anywhere from 45-75 dollars an hour. the job takes about 2.5-3.5 hrs

clutch kits (pressure plate, clutch, bearing) could cost anywhere from $115-400 or more depending on your desire and wallet size.

this is all assuming that your problem is actually the clutch in the first place

id say that has all the symptoms of a clutch going out. It could just be you need to bleed the system. And check ur clutch cylinder for fluid.

Before we all say its a clutch problem, let me ask how is your driving skills? Maybe when you shift you don't let go of the clutch all the way and step on the gas? This could also cause your RPM to go up because your clutch is still in but once you let it out, the RPM's drop back to its position then start accelerating. Try doing a little burn out or a little launch to see if your clutch still grips well.

HAHA a burnout or launch is not a proper method to determine the condition of your clutch.

in any case, do you often smell heated metal smell?
