17s vs 18s
i'm about to get some wheels for my car but i'm not sure if i want 17s or 18s. any suggestions?? i'm getting coilovers to lower it a lot. i just want it to look good ya know. if possible, can someone post up some pix of cars with 17s vs. 18s so i can see a difference. thanx.
if its looks, 18s, if its performance, 17s. Faster acceleration (unless your boosting, then you can do either). I'm running 17s with coilovers so I can adjust the look. Its a comfortable ride still, 18s you tend to feel the streets more and potholes are a nightmare.

On a civic, yes. On an RSX, no. The RSX is too big to look right lowered on 16's. 17's are probably the best all around, lots of tire choices, plenty of fender clearence. 18's will look killer but will require you to run a tire with less side wall and therefore a little worse traction.

Good info... I'm contemplating the same for my '05 EP. 18's would look great for looks, but I want performance too and I'm won't be able to boost (low funds) until sometime later this millenium. I was thinkin 17x8F and 17x8.5R for a staggered look. Thoughts?

Actually, I was looking through one of my HCI's earlier today and saw an article titled "The Real McCoy" on a 2002 white rsx. It was rolling on some 16" bronze Mugen rims (I can't remember the name of them for the life of me right now) and It looked really nice. I'm actually considering a set, when I get an RSX of course, lol!!!

why would you want wider wheels in the back of a car thats FF?

i was wondering the same thing, isnt wider wheels usually for bigger wheel base resulting in better traction, so why would you want the wider wheels in the back, if anything put them in the front, but that would just look weird.

This is a big look in the german car community. I dont know where they did the testing, but i remember that it is actually beneficial to have more rubber in the back of the car during cornering... even in a FF setup. You'll see alot of staggered wheels on GTI's and A4's that are FF. It might just be a fad to look more like the FR guys, but it's a good look as long as it's subtle IMO.

yeah i heard of that but i really dont see how much you would really benefit from staggering rims on a FF, especially an RSX considering you cant run that big of a difference in staggered fitment, like you could on the S2000 or other Rear wheel drive cars. i would only consider it for show purposes only. but its whatever the person running them on there car wants.

wouldnt the car understeer like a mother with wider rear wheels on an FF platform?
ff cars already tend to understeer in turns hence forth why we stay on the gas when we turn through corners to try n whip the rear around just a lil bit.
but with wheels that are wider in the rear wouldnt it keep pushing the car outward preventing the rear from kicking?

exactly i dont see anything beneficial out of doing it. like i said i would only consider it for car show purposes. but if that is what the person wants to run then let them find out for themselves.

17s are the best of both worlds...u wont lose as much performance as with 18s and u'll still look good
