OT: Special Event Report -- A chance to win a race-preped GT3!!? Need your support and votes...
Wazzzup fellow ITR peeps. As a former ITR and notorious PW on this forum, I need your votes
Unbelievable deal I know...but this is a true event and it does takes place in, uh, China.
So, one of the Porsche race teams in the Asia Carerra Cup decided to run an urban drag competition to raise their fame. They are setting up drag events in 8 major cities in China with preliminary, semi-final and final round. The ultimate winner (with actual runtime + internet votes) will win a race-preped GT3 and a contract with the Porsche team as a racer.
Since I had a career move to China, I jump on my feet when I heard about this---obviously, I'm looking for a career change!
This is one of the first nationally sanctioned race event, gotta check out what it's all about draggin in China...lol. It turns out to be quite ghetto...they find some desolated development areas, place some cones in the middle of a two lane street and use a flagger to start the cars. Timer starts as soon as the flag goes up and ends when the end flaggers waive the white flag......you guess it!! TIMED WITH STOPWATCHES! /joy
Anyhow, I took my lowly Honda Accord 2.3 VTEC to the preliminary round and ran a 18.55. Pretty embarrasing, placed 24th, but less than 10 cars get in the 14, alot more in the 20's
A HKS modded WRX took 1st place with a 13.11 run in the rain!...there is even a Skyline R33 GTT, but ran 18's due to the rain and shitty driver.
(You can see my Accord here and the GT3 not far away!)

So with some votes from my friends, I was able to get into the semi-final. My father's FUGA (aka Infiniti M35) just finished breaking-in and I get to take his car into the semis. Upon arriving at the spot, I saw a whole bunch of Fits and actually spotted a nicely done USDM EP3, there's also a turboed S14. All hell broke-loose when a Ferrari F430 showed up...panties dropped, men juice flew and all the wannabe-racers started cussing.
(EP3)

(S14)

(F430)

(The Fit Crew)

I was arranged to lined up with a modded Mazda 6 and pretty much put a good 4 car length on him. I guess the timing worker probably choked and I got a whopping time of 13.69!! 1 sec faster than what Motor Trend tested for the M35.
(At The Line)

(Crossing the line)

The F430 was lined up with an Impreza with EJ20 engine...the GC8 took the F430 by surprise on the line but F430 catchs up rather quickly and took the GC8 by about 1 car length.
(Someone's bout to get oWn)

Final Result?
1st - F430 @ 13.53
2nd - Fuga @ 13.69
3rd - GC8 @ 14.60
4th - Honda Accord @ 16.8
(none got into the 15's...)
LMAO! I even called BS on my own time but the scores were final. The top 3 overal score winners will represent my city to the final match on the 22nd of July.

CLIFF NOTE: Drag event in China, get to win a Porsche. Got in to the Finals, yippy!
*************************EDIT UPDATE**********************
Voting period is now over. Thank you all for your support!!!! My final vote counts is 278, placing second in my city. This should be good enough for my entrance into the final. But the thing is, even if I do run 1st in the final, there is still 40% counts. During the Beijing match, a WRX just ran a 12.29, and he has over 10,000 votes. So even if he ran 2nd or 3rd place in the final, he would still win....suxor!

I am now working on getting a car to compete in the final. The FUGA does not stand a chance...but the fastest so far in all cities is 13.11, my time is 4th overall among 200 entrants.
Someone send me a 10sec car
I'll pay and split the GT3 with you, LOL!

I'm a little lost on how a series of street/drag races can yield you a Porsche GT3 and a racing deal, but I voted for ya anyway.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Not really...haha, there are a F360 and Maserati that ran in other cities. One got 14's and the other 15's...winner is a modded WRX.

Racing in China is still pretty new as most families are still planning their first car. But the auto industry is booming and the racing scene will catch up quickly. Everything needs a starting point...you'd be delighted to know how SCCA first started, lol.

You can't plan autox/track, cuz most drivers are noobs in China and will kill themselves. Straight line competition is the safest, but there are no drag strips in China...so we take it to the streets with support of traffic cops and local governments
Thanks for the vote, lol.

hehe...yea, the leader in my city rating list is not far behind.
But there are participants from other cities that already have over 10,000 votes...can't fawk with these people that ***** on China discussion forums, way too much people go on there.
And worst of all, these ppl with high votes never attended even one of the actual races....and they are still on top of the list.
That's why even if I only run 2nd or 3rd fastest in the Final, with enough votes, I can still win this thing....but I'm talking about votes in the thousands.
