Default Anyone else notice that the 15" high performance tire market is getting kinda slim?

I've been reading a bit today on tirerack and some other sites in order to keep up with the current tire offerings. There have been several extremely high performing street tires that have been released recently (such as the Bridgestone RE01R) but hardly any of them come in 15" sizes.

A tire like the Potenza S03, that just a year ago was the highest rated wet weather performance tire tested on tireracks track, now gets owned in wet weather performance by the newest generation of tires. I know the "old" tires are still great but it sucks not being able to stay on top of the game.

I guess now that you can get Civic's with factory 17 inch rims the small tire market is destined to diminish. Factory 14" wheels are near about extinct even in the the small car market. I wonder how long before 15" wheels meet the same fate?

< wants the newest bling bling tires without having to buy larger diameter wheels.

Honda Challenge was successful in pressuring Toyo into making the RA-1 in 225-45-15.

But you're generally right. 17" is going to be the way to go in the future.

Of course, I'm stuck with 15" SSR Type C and 16" Spoons. LOL...

I've been meaning to contact tirerack about the RE010 in 195/55 15. Since I haven't yet, does anyone have information that the RE010 in OE size for the ITR has been discontinued?

It baffles me why Yokohama won't import the Advan AD07 in 15in fitments; what an awesome tire.

It's hard for me to imagine a better wet tire than the S-03. Those things were like devil's magic.

But, yeah, it bites that 15" performance tires are becoming scarce. Personally, I think anything bigger than 16" is just dumb, and I prefer 15" for something as light as an Integra. Hopefully it's just a temporary trend. But I won't hold my breath.

Some new tires aren't available in 15" sizes for our cars. But lots of others are, including the Falken RT-615 and Hankook Z212, just to name two newer ones, as well as old standbys like the Kumho MX and BFG KD. And plenty of good ones continue to be available in our sizes, as noted here.

Incidentally, the Yoko AD07 and Bridgestone RE01R aren't available in 16" or 17" sizes for our cars, either.

I don't know, but it's not showing up on their website. ???

(See sig if you're interested in buying a set at a good price.)

It seems to be a trend in the US....higher priced cars = bigger wheels (regardless of performance).

The ES100 and basic Azenis are still available as "ultra performance" tires, but they're a DD/light track use type offering.

15" performance tire market slim?

Try and find me as many options in a 215/45/16 (to fit a JDM ITR Wheel).

You can find lots of options in 205/45-16 that will also work.

RT-615 is the only tire you'll ever need. I still can't believe you can buy a tire this good for $78... Like the ITR itself, it's one of the wonders of the world !

What baffles me is that tire manufacturers make these high performance tires, such as the Advan AD07, in sizes that fit the ITR but do not offer them to the US market.

Wheels are already very tough to find in the "optimal" track size for many

I feel lucky that I purchased three sets of the K1 before they were discontinued. Anyone have a lead on some decent/lightweight cast wheels in 15x7 for our lug pattern?

Great tire. Unfortunately, it's not available in 15" sizes for our cars. The only 15" size is 195/50-15, which is perfect for pre-'96 Civics, but a bit too small for Integras.

It's available in 205/45-16 and 205/40-17 for those who have bigger wheels, though...

^^^I bit the bullet and bought 15x7 CE28's. They are now my track rims. Once the Toyo T1R's wear out I'll be looking at the RT615 and the RA-1 as a replacement.

7inch wide is a hard find. Lots of 6.5 though
