hey i just bought a 2000 gsr last week. it's got mild work done, i/h/e, clutch work, adjustable cam gears and a fpr. i've noticed over the last few days that i seem to smell a slight gas odor comming from under the hood and i'm getting TERRIBLE gas mileage (i'm at about 120 miles and i've only got 1/4 tank left). i know the car needs a tune but is there something else wrong here? the previous owner was running a vafcII with a tune and just before trading the car in he removed it and replaced it with a stock ecu. any help would be great, thanks in advance!

 

fuel feed line leak? fuel rail?

 

Check for leaky injectors. Look for wetness around them

 

i checked under there and couldn't find anything...the fpr and fuel rail seem ok, everything seems to be sealed up tight. i'll get a pic up and see if there's anything i'm missing. might the car just be running rich because of the lack of a tune and the ecu change?

 

Is it throwing a cel?

 

you check the fuel return line...the fuel feed line...injector o rings..those are the only things in the hood that run gas through them..and the fuel rail...if those arent leaking or wet...then its not from under the hood the gas is coming from...

 

it's not throwing a cel...at least i don't think, it's been a while since i've been in a teg...the cel flashes when you turn on the car, then after a while it shuts off. it seems like it flashes a little too long, but it always goes off withing 30 seconds. i'll check all those things today when i get off work to see if i can find a leak somewhere. i'll post up and let you know what i find.

 

as long as the cel doesnt stay on you are fine

it is probably your injector o-rings

have someone start your car and look for where its coming from, the fuel evaporates too fast to locate the leak by yourself if you shut the car off

 

You said it's got a fpr..is there a high pressure fuel pump installed that's overpowering the injectors? I've got that problem right now, but haven't installed my fpr yet. If I hit the gas it smells like either exhaust or gas.

nah this isnt his problem...it has a stock fuel pump

 

maybe your FPR is adjusted to shoot too much fuel

 

happened to my car im assuming the fuel injectors like mine...check your intake manifold see if your gas is leaking..if it is u need a new rubber ring around the fuel injectors.
