Help, snapped a valve cover stud!!!
So i was putting back my valve cover and one of the inner valve cover studs where the spark plug cover goes snapped off. Is this a big deal? will oil leak through the hole over a long period of time, it hasn't yet though, can i get a new stud from honda??
i snapped mine off too after doing my valve adjustment. Use an ez out and yea u can get that bolt from honda. It'll be around $5 though, that's how much i had to pay. Oil will leak later on, it did for me, get it fixed asap.
does the bolt that snapped on me screw into somthing else under the valve cover and does it have a hex shape to take it off like the 4 outer studs?
that bolt screws to the head under the valve cover. Well take out your valve cover and see if you can grab some pliers and twist it out if it's sticking out. If it does then ur in luck, if not like in my case then you'll have to use an ez-out or drill.
yea, lets say u have ur valve cover on, it snapped right at the base of where the washer goes. it just broke off far enough for me to put on the rubber washer and it seals the hole but theres nothing holding it down except for my spark plug cover. i think i could pull it off w/ pliers but won't it be hard to take off?

anyone else have this problem? is it alrite to just stick my rubber washer where it orignally goes. The only difference is i don't have a nut holding it down like the other three. Note: this is the inner stud near the spark plug wires, not the main 4 outer ones

just put on the washer and try to push the washer down a bit so it will hold. i did this and it never leak

For mine, there is still like 2 lines of threading left for it to catch a little for the nut so i put the nut on but it usually comes off but if i be real careful it stays on top of the washer. Then after that, i put my spark plug cover on and it keeps the nut from sliding off the washer. I don't really want to take my valve cover back off because one of the studs for the main outer four( left top) came off of the head with the valve cover before. I looked at the threading in the head where the stud screwed in and it was messed up for 1 or 2 lines but luckily my stud screwed back in tight. Im just afraid if i take my valve cover off again, ill get the threading messed up on the top left stud or even snapping half the stud in the head, then ill be really screwed! so if i can leave it the way it is, ill do it but if im gonna fix it, im gonna have to take that chance AHHH
Well if its one of the studs that holds the spark plug cover on all you gotta do is take the valve cover back off and a deep socket 10mm and remove the broken stud and replace....simple
its a simple fix, but youll prob wanna fork out money for a new gasket and some honda bond. those things arent suppposed to be tightened too tight. just hand tight and youll be fine.

This is a B series engine right? That bolt you broke is replaceable. You need to remove the valve cover to access it.
The bolt holds down the cam plates. Remove it with a 12mm socket and torque it down to 21ftlbs.
My bet is you are gonna break 1 or more in the near future. I broke 1 and replaced it, then when I was tightening them down again I broke another one. LOL
such a pain in the *** to remove the valve cover again. LOL.
Those bolts get streched out easily if you are removing your valve cover alot. No biggy.

damm what are all you tightening it too, 30ft lbs? its only supose to be hand tight or 8 ft lbs. its a simple fix just get a new stud and bolt and remove the valve cover to replace it
Just replaced the stud. Whew, what a relief, through out the whole time i was replacing it, i thought i might snap half of the stud inside the head but luckily i didn't. I put honda bonda also around the gasket, sparkplug seals and the rubber washers along the top. Everything seems good now. Thanks for all the help!!!!!!
