OIL In Cyl #3 - SparkPlugs Coverred - Smokes A Little, Need Diagnosis
This is a brand new rebuilt d16a6 motor, total bottom end is 100% new with new parts, the head is completely built and was previously used for 4500 miles and then slapped on my motor.
The car ran great for the first 3K or so Ive had it and just recently I noticed that after the car is fully warmed up and you go for a drive. Come to a stop or slow down hard, the car will kind of billow smoke. Not to heavy but enough to surround the car and into the cabin a bit.
Smelt like burning oil so I pulled the plugs, sure enough #3 was SOAKED, a good 1/2 teaspoon all up the threads and on the tip of the plug.
I did some research and found that the valve cover gromets like to fail on people, picked up a brand new set and threw em in, didnt work.
Now this problem doesnt seem to be constant, the car has gone a day before without smoking, but today it smoked at almost every full stop.
It will not smoke if you start the car up from cold and let it idle, no smoke at all.
Im lost on what it could be or how I could fix it.

Spark plug has oil on it? Check your valve cover grommets. They can leak so bad that you will lose spark in the cylinder and run of 3. CRXFORUM had this happen to 2 cylinders at once and his car died.

Leakdown test or compression test, Might have bad rings since it was just a recent rebuild probly put in wrong or something.

But do you know that for sure,
But do you know that for sure,
Well Theres oil on the dam threads of the spark plug, to me that mens its coming from the top.... right?
I did just replace the valve cover orings though so I cant see that being the problem, would teflon do anything there or would it just burn up?

lets see how turns out.

Silicon the gaskets too. Sometimes they don't seal well even if they are 100% brand new. And torque down the cover. Sometimes you just miss a bolt and it's loose, not giving the proper pressure on the gaskets.
Well I have read (not experienced) that high horsepower hondas have trouble with crank-case ventilation. Usually the stock PCV system is inadequate & can result in blow-by at the spark plug hole rubber gaskets. If you've got oil on the plug-wire boots, or just down in the plug area, then I'm guessing that this could be your problem...
Perhaps it's time for an aftermarket pcv system (think endyn catch can kit)...

My valve cover is left open, venter to the air, my block is also open as it only has to black box on the back of the block (d16a6) with no hoses connected
Yes I understand oil is getting in the combustions chamber, but if you read when it may change your mind where its coming from
If I start the car cold it will NOT smoke, when driving around under boost or vacuum it will NOT smoke. It only smokes OCCASIONALLY (about every 3rd time I stop) when i come to a hard stop and sometimes when just coming to a slow stop, once I start moving again, it goes away.....
Im going to do a compression test in 10 minutes
The motor was rebuilt with vitara pistons and eagle rods, head is fully built with aftermarket parts

Compression Test Results - 130 - 130 - 130 - 130
Damn that made me smile seeing those numbers , whether they mean something or not
I really would like to know how oil is getting all over my dam spark plug though

Well I went out for a drive, I noticed that the car seems to smoke when the oil pressure is higher.... maybe that would be obvious?
But, like I said, it only smokes on hard decel and idle, when the car warmed up and idle pressure was under 25psi (around 23) the car didnt smoke at all, I did quite a few stops frequently just to check it out, didnt smoke once.
Maybe I should just lower my oil pressure significantly for a temp fix until winter when I can tear the motor apart? Wonder what I could do to get the pressure way day, if its feasible

Am i the only one that thinks 130 on all cylinders is low? although maybe the compression is just real low with the vitara pistons,,not sure
What kind of PCV system are you using?
What kind of PCV system are you using?
Thats normal for the motor Ive got
PCV system is wide open
No throttle wasnt open at all
I would like to know if lowerring the oil pressure may help based on whats Ive found thouh
