Auto to Manuel transmission
hey im sick of auto, so i want to convert to stick. I have an 88 civic ls sedan with stock engine and tranny.
1.I was wondering how much it wuold cost to do this conversion(parts and labor).
2. are these conversions reliable?
3.what tranny would go be best for mileage?(d15 has no performance anyways)
thanks..i did a search and it came up with 3 topics but none were helpful.

If you lived near me, I'd do it all for 500$ plus the cost of parts in 1 week (only working 2-3 hours a night on it). I can convert them no problem no, I've done 2 and I have a 3rd one lined up soon.
Parts are less then 100$ from a scrap yard. Pick up a tranny from a friend, scrapyards over charge you for them, but the bits and odds you go to the scrap yards.

Parts (if using original engine):
-Tranny
-Axles (5spd are longer then auto, your will work, just they might not last as long)
-Clutch and hardware
-Flywheel
-Flywheel bolts
-Shift linkage
-Shift linkage bushings and mounting components
-MT tranny mounts, relocated the AT rear by 1 hole over, or buy the MT and replace the AT
-Clutch cable
-Pedal assembly
-Thottle cable (unless you are switching the gas pedal back to the automatic one, I can't verify, everytime I did I was swapping to Si and used the Si TC)
-ECU
-Wiring (to wired Park and Reverse lights)
-Metal to either JB Weld and seal leak or actually weld in and seam leak the holes from the automatic.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Oh yes, and make sure EVERYTHING mechanically speaking, is connected when you run the shift linkage. That way, if you have fresh bushings, it will guide itself to wear it should be, making the drilling and bolting on a snap and a half! It will be dead on (learned this the hard way with my own civic).

This is nothing more then a guide and a wiring info. I found some thing left out of that website. Especially the shift linkage part. Until you do it, you think it's a good site. I found it to be a good tutorial with some missing info, inspired me to do it.

Here is a more complete guide.

Took me a few days to do it cause I was missing parts. Tranny, clutch and flywheel are the most expensive parts. Everything else can be had cheap at a junkyard.

Hardest part is getting the old pedals out and the new ones in. Hopefully you don't have back problems to began with, but either way you will afterwards. And don't do it when its 100 degrees outside, because its about 120 under the dash.
the crf50.no-ip.com site is the same as my 4gcivic.net site. If you go to the home page you can find Dax's pedal removal guide. Save time, remove the steering column. But that is the hardest part of the task. I did mine a few weekends in advance to swapping the tranny.
Oh ****, I forgot, dax wrote a complete auto to manual guide for my forum, lemme git it.
