Default air intake

What is the absolute best setup for the air intake for a DOHC VTEC. I have heard both ways, some say the stock box provides cooler air and allows better performance. Others say a top of the line filter exposed is better.

Name Brands, suggestions etc. appreciated.

Thanks !

an ebay knockoff and K&N filter is fine. You're not going to get that much more power from an intake anyway. For the absolute BEST, my vote goes to AEM's v2.

any more opinions on which is better, here is the cold air intake in a box

and here is a civic with *****-to-the-wall spoon parts all over it, yet the air cleaner sits out in the open.
