DO NOT REMOVE IT PERMANENTLY!!! The purpose of it, as you already know, is to keep the engine heat down. I think that painting it is a bad idea, most of the paint out there is just gonna crack after a while and look worse then it already is. If you really wand to do something wit it then my opinon is to take it off clean it, scrub the rust off and put it back on. I hope it helps somewhat and by the way good luck with it

Keep the engine heat down?! If anything it keeps heat in closer to the engine and away from your hands. It's there for safety, not to keep the engine cool.

^^Agreed... If you look at the sheild... It has a "Hand" with a "NO NO SIGN" on it..
^^At least I think.. It's been awhile since I looked at one of those..

But uh.. I agree it's for safety, not for "cooling" purposes...

A DC Sports ceramic-coated header costs like $200, and sure looks better than the stock heat shield. I haven't noticed any differences in how the hood or the engine heat up.

Rice? Is tucking wires rice? I cleaned the rust off my shield, and painted it flat black with grill paint. Its not rice, and it looks better then it did before, and thats alot cheaper then $200 for a header that only looks better. Now thats rice.

DC Headers are no bueano they have just as much restriction to the flow of exhaust as the stock headers do... buddy has one... sold it and shelled out the money for a mugen header and downpipe paid over a grand but well worth it looks amazing

OH really???? m'kay.....see a good aftermarket header is alot less restrictive than a stock one I don't know where you got you facts from but w.e Im thinking your wrong......unless your goin turbo a header is a viable performance upgrade.........
that's why people take time to desing and creat aftermarket ones that ARE less restrictive...but w.e

and my opinion on tucking wires?? cool..not for me cause I got better things to do to my car and motor at the moment..

to me painted heat shield=bored, broke, rice

IMO

ohh ok W.E. So some newb is gonna get all on here and talk about how a $200 header is da tyte shhh.. y0! Please read more post less. Or better yet why don't you just go driving around looking for people to street race, yeah... cool. Since you post constantly then I will let you have the last words, but seriously read more.

edit: ohh btw I don't think that wire tucking is rice either.

If you watched F & F at the movies you might be rice.
If you have a huge wing on your car you might be rice.
If you drive around racing people in the streets your might be rice.

i wouldn't say painting your heatshield is exactly rice i would just say its more like your really bored. IMO it just looks better if you take off the heatshield considering like what other people are saying if you get an aftermarket header for n/a or turbo you dont really need it and if anything its just added weight. even though its only like 5 lbs lol.

Rust or paint? Hard i know, keep your damn heatshield on, keep the heat inside the manifold where it belongs. The warning label is just for tards.

i would say keep it on. it does keep underhood temps down by keeping it close to the motor . i did take mines off once when i was na. i noticed alot more heatsoak from the short ram intake

not a significant weight savings for taking it off..

also the cast iron header looks like ***
