car overheating

Default car overheating

for some reason my car tends to overheat. i changed the thermostat, put in new antifreeze and bleed it, my radiator is good, but i don't know what's wrong. it only overheats whenn i'm driving far like say about 30-45 miles on the highway. i don't know maybe i bleed the antifreeze wrong. help me out.

when the car is cold open the radiator cap and turn on the car. let it run untill you see water flowing in the radiator, thats how you can tell if your water pump is working.

I thought that's how you can tell if the thermostat is working?

At any rate, I'm having a similar problem... after you've driven the car for a little bit or even when it 'starts' to over heat... stop the car... pop your hood and check the following...:

Upper and Lower radiator hose for hotness.. If the lower one is as hot as the upper hose; Rule out your Thermostat

Check the coolant/antifreeze in your reserve tank and look if there's any signs of oil mixture in the coolant. If there is; It's your head gasket but if there isn't, don't rule the headgasket out yet.

Check the fan by sticking your hand inbetween the fan and the engine and see if air is blowing towards the engine. If so; Rule the fan out

As far as your radiator goes... Hopefully you're with OEM or a good Aluminum one. Make sure the radiator cap is holding enough pressure. I've heard it can be as simple as a radiator cap being unable to hold pressure within the radiator system.

When the car is cold... look at your reserve and make sure there's fluid in there to about MIN.

As for bleeding the coolant... if you have a d16z6, there is a bleeder (12mm) nut right on top of the upper radiator hose on the engine.
