i have a t3/to4e in a d16 and boosting at 7psi. it ran fine and i can hear the spool pretty well with or without the window down. lately im not able to hear the spool as loud. i'm still getting same amount of boost. just the spool noise is softer now. what could be the problem?

haha.. Chances are your getting used to the noise my friend.

 

3 inch fart cans might also be the problem

 

The whistle that you hear is heard more so on journal/thrust bearing turbo's due to the metal friction on the journal/thrust bearing. When it wears the noise is less pronounced. And is heard even less on ball bearing turbo's due to the fact that there is less metal to metal contact.

 

so do you think mine is wear down?

 

if it is a non-bb turbo that would be my best guess.

 

what are the bad things when journal bearings wear down?

 

excessive shaft play

 

More shaft play=new/rebuild turbo in the future
