Default Coolant leaking out of Exhaust

I tried to install an automatic y8 intake mani but it didnt fit.

So I re-installed my d16a6 intake manifold.

I hook everything back up and now theres coolant spraying out of the joint between my header and downpipe, and its spraying out of a bad weld on my cat.

Everything has been double checked and installed correctly. I double checked coolant lines, back of the block, water pump area, head area and theres no leaks.

I never heard of coolant coming out of the exhaust. I realize my exhaust needs to be fixed/replaced but there shouldn't be coolant going through my header and out my exhaust.

No signs of leaks or problems prior to the intake swap. I just hooked it up, filled up the coolant and let it rip and now its leaking coolant out the exhaust.

Blown Head Gasket? - Theres no coolant in my oil.

Bad Water Pump?

Is there something that could be clogged that would send coolant from the intake manifold through the exhaust port?

Bad intake gasket?

I'm stumped on this one and I'm considering ripping it all apart for a vtec head swap if necessary.

This probably sounds really dumb but how has you coolant level been? I am wondering if it is just water in the exhaust? Do you take a lot of short trips and your exhaust doesn't warm up to evaporate the water?

It could be you intake gasket.
If it's leaking into one of the runners it will come out your exhaust. It would be missing horribly though.
If not, I would say it's you head gasket.
Go get the tool from AutoZone that pressurizes you cooling system and then take your header off. Then you'll see where it's coming from.

Intake gasket theory...

Wouldn't it burn in the combustion chamber? Funny smelling exhaust, and I would think it would knock a bit too...

I know you said you checked the coolant lines, but is there any chance you hooked a vacuum line up to a coolant source?

SI red, would that cause coolant in the combustion chamber? Thus causing it to knock, and/or not even fire...in addition to funny smelling exhaust?

Well after checking over all the basics, I yanked the intake mani off again and found it was leaking through the #4 runner. I decided it was the gasket setup so I changed it all out and ran it around the block. Sucker smoked llike a bitch but it chirped 2nd. Just gotta clear it out and I should be good.

Thanks for the help guys.

Good job...

Now can someone explain to me why the coolant doesn't burn off or cause knocking in the combustion chamber? Just looking to understand more.

Thanks in advance.

if any coolant got in to the combustion chamber wouldnt it just burn off and make a white cloud of smoke behind you??? even just a little water woudl do it. iv never heard of it being able to get out of the exhaust with out smoking

I thought this too, but on a friend's CRX, we accidently hooked up a coolant line to a vacuum source, and coolant ended up in the exhaust piping.

We had found the vacuum/coolant problem right away, but somehow there was a bunch of coolant sitting in the exhaust that would only smoke once the exhaust got hot enough to begin burning the coolant off. It drove us crazy, when we would start the car up and not having even a hint of smoke, and then 10 minutes or so later, the white smoke would start pouring out the tailpipe.

We took the exhaust off, and coolant just poured out of the midpipe. We let it all drain out and dry, and the smoke never reappeared

I don't know how all of that water in the combustion chamber didnt mess anything up, but the motor ran like an absolute beast after we figured out what was causing the smoke.

Just my $.02 of experience on this issue

Yea my exhaust was nowhere near hot enough to burn the coolant so it just leaked furiously. After driving it 80 miles, it runs like a champ again.

i cant believe the coolant wouldnt have been burnt off in the combustion chamber... are you sure you didnt connect a coolant line into your o2 sensor hole lol?

If you get a bad enough leak it won't burn and just pass right through the motor.
And the only knock you would ever hear would be the motor hydro-locking if you got enough of a leak there.
Good thing you got it fixed though.
