Default preventing Satellite radio antena scratches?

I just got a new car and want to install my XM adapter. I plan on doing a whole XM/Nav system, but in reality that could be months before it gets done.

Until then I would love to have my adapter in there, but when it was on my lude, the antena scratched the paint at even the slightest movement.

Is there anything I can do to cover the antenna, or just the feet so that it wont scratch my new paint but wont interfeer with the reception? Ive thought about just putting the antenna on the back dash, but then the reception is poor.

TIA

Make sure and clean the surface off verrry well first, but in reality it shouldn't be scratching unless you have subs in the trunk

just put it on the dash or the rear deck, the reception should be fine. granted this wont work on all vehicles but it will for about 95%. we install almost all sat. radio, and nav ant. on the dash at my work, never have any problems. good luck.

I've had it both ways, and externally mounted works MUCH better than on the dash.

The antenna shouldn't move. You should be able to take it through a carwash w/out problems. If it moves, probably the magnet is ****. Maybe get a new one. Is it the old, huge *** antenna?

Cuts out a lot when it's in the interior.

Here's a tip, try getting some thin saran wrap. Cut it out to the size of the base of the ant.double it then use a little hair spray to make it stick to the base, wallaaaa. Worked for me.

thats a good idea or maybe even vinyl from a sign shop. stick it on the bottom and trim it with a razor.
