car sputters when low on gas!
i have an 89 civic with a 92 cx motor 115 k.
the car is still DPFI, it runs great but when it hits about a qaurter tank of gas, it sputters randomly. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS A 1\4 tank of gas or less.
it DOESNT shut off, but it will just not go no matter how hard i hit the gas pedal. it feels as it if the motor is just not getting any fuel.
only 1 CEL for an o2 sensor other then that the car is fine, this NEVER happens if the gas tank is full or anything over a 1\4. what could it be? bad fuel pump?? clogged injectors?
need help! this is my daily driver.

probably a bad pump, the pump is cooled by the gasoline and when the fuel level gets too low it gets hot, and when the pump is going bad, it will usually show its signs when low on gas
similar thing happened to me on the highway about a week ago...
i was driving on about an 1/8 of a tank on my way home and it sputtered and wouldnt go... so i got off the highway and it was doin the same but not as bad at a lower rpm, went and got gas and problem solved? since then its been normal... i have a walbro 225 that ive had in there for about 2 months ( motor is a b16 ) i HOPE that fuel pump isnt going bad it was brand new when i got it! ........not to thread jack but i think my gauge cluster is starting to go bad (if that can even happen???) i just recently replaced my speedo cable (no biggie) but my temp gauge doesnt work correctly it freaks out and raises and goes down for no reason what so ever, even at idle... and i dont think my fuel gause is reading correctly either, i was completly on E the other day and i put in 4 gallons and it read i had a little more than 3/4?! anyone had anything like this happen? my cluster has 243xxx on it, maybe with the age and milage it goes bad? i dunno... not tryin to thread jack sorry!

is there any way of testing the fuel pump to see if it really is going bad?

you can pull it from the tank...put some gas in a container, run the fuel outlet back into the container so it just circulated, run 12 volts to it and just let it pump the fuel in a cycle for a while and let it get hot and see if it stops or stutters at any times, that'd be the ghetto way of doing it, a better way to do it would be to rig a guage in the fuel line to see if you get any fuel pressure spikes or anything
Fuel injector cleaner, maybe? Clean your fuel filter as well. With less gas in the tank, the pump can't build as much pressure. With less pressure, and a dirty filter, it might not be letting it flor properly.
