Default HELP! Low compression in 1 cylinder! running out of ideas.

i just swaped in stock d16a6 motor. and it ran shitty so i did a compression test.

cylinder:
1-160psi
2-155psi
3-170psi
4-80psi

last nite i put a few drops of oil in cylinder 4 and re-did the compression test and the numbers bumped up to about 120psi. so i assume it was the rings, i then pulled out the pistons and cleaned out the rings and put them back in.

they look fine by the way, no broken rings or ring lands. all pistons and rings look almost identical. i cant see why #4 would be durasticly lower then the rest!

before and after the cleaning.

and the compression numbers are still the same! im exhausted with this problem. someone help me pinpoint this problem.

ok, yea that valve doesn't look like its seating right...I would take it out and check it for straightness...also while there out, if they seem okay, i would lap them to get a good seat...other than that, it can't really be anything else but a warped head or block?? Or your old head gasket could have blown out

before ripping apart your engine agian, try a leakdown test, see where those gases are escaping from.

okay i thought you had a problem with cyl4???? not three..

best bet is a leak down test i guess.

lappin the valves means using a grinding compound on the valve seat and the face of the valve where it meets the seat, you can get all the stuff from any auto store, u need grinding compound and these stupid little looking suction cups on wood, haha, you just put the grinding compound on the valve and seat, press the valve shut and spin the valve back and forth to grind an even surface for the valve to seat on....its a pretty gay process, takes a while with 16 valves, but its worth it...

ahhh i think i've seen those... so this is a poor mans way of repairing a tweaked valve?

its not the poor mans way of fixing a valve by any means, it the valve is bent, it NEEDS replaced....all good machine shops do this, its just a way to ensure a valve is seeting correctly, especially after replacing the vavle and/or seats

it could just be your cylinder is worn out. if the compression went up its probably not a bent valve. a ghetto way of checking is take the cam out of the head and fill the combustion chambers with water to see if one leaks a lot. i think a few drops is normal. also those valves that u circled. one may not be bent. it could just be different size margins on them from one wearing faster? do you have micrometers available? i suggest you measure the cylinder in about 4 points and compare it to the others.

leak down test, and valves were bent, air was just rushing out of the T/b.
i found 4 intake valves that were bent, and big thanks to 91civicEx for supplying me with replacements!

that bent valve was pretty obvious after i rotated the valve a few times.

also lapped the valves

tomorrow i will put the engine back together and do a compression test and i hope i will get good numbers. and fire her up!

cyl compression is:

1=155
2=152
3=160
4=165

the once weakest cylinder is now the strongest haha...

and yeap she Runs!!! but i need to time the ignition and that would be it. she is running a bit hot i think, my fan came on for the first time. maybe theres bubbles in the cooling system.

now its time to see the state referree! big thanks to everyone!
