Default Collector makers

I dont need your secret to the entire collector.. How about just telling me how I can get my machine to cut exactly 90 degrees apart?

Im having a **** time because I appear to be off by 2-3 degrees which on 4 pieces=crap fitment..

So how exactly do you divide 360degrees into 90 degree sections easily.. A ruler is failing me..

I asume your asking how to devide a pipe in to 4 sections ?

- Measure the OD of the pipe dived it in half,
- Devide the half of the OD to make a quarter,
- Make a line down the lenth of the pipe with a level or pice of angle iron that small anuff to fit on the pipe for a strait edge.
- Roll the pipe with the line on top take a wrap-a-round or a tailors soft tape make a mark at the half of the OD, scribe that line for the lenth of the pipe
-Do the same for the quarter mark with the wrap-a-round/ tailors tape.

-Or take a pice of paper wrap it wound the pipe mark were the paper end meets the other side of the paper,
-Lay out the paper measure the lenth of the OD and dived by 4, mark it out on the paper
-Wrap it around the pipe again, tape the paper to its self so it will stay on the pipe,
-Transfer the marks to the pipe
-Then scribe or draw your line down the lenth of the pipe with angle iron for a strait edge.

Cut with zip blade or what ever you prefer to use
Try to keep your mesurements with in a 1/16 or 1mm and you should be golden.

I do this to make cut backs in the feild when im making fitings, and saddles in pipe lines.

its a 15* cut on a 1.75 in tube but you get the idea

open it up in PS and just set the width to the tubes cercumfrance, it won't be 15*on a smaller tube, but im asuming anythign will help

good luck!

Dude, i dont get what your saying.

I understand I can print it out but I have 1.5" OD tube.. will that work? Or are you saying I just adjust the width to fit around the tube? if so, do I keep the aspect ratio or do I just change the 1 axis?

It will probably be really close if you are using sch10 or 40 pipe. 1.5 is the ID (but it's really bigger) and the OD is closer to 1.75. Trial and error FTW!!

Hey Randy, what do you use to round out the outlet after you weld it together?

I notice a lot of collectors people make don't fit the flange at all. They are square, T3 flange is rectangular. The pipe always seems to hang over too much and overall doesn't fit the flange well. I'd suggest downloading the T3 flange from t3flange.com and laying the pipe out on the flange. Then you will know where to cut. There will be two cuts obviously. Take that intersection point and find the distances to the pipe. Then take those distances and draw a line up the distance you want(whether it be 3" or 5" or whatever), then draw a line to connect the two points and use cad/trig to find the angle. Its more work, but its a higher quality product.

did that do anybody any good? If not let me know why and I will explain how to use it.
The way you keep it 90degs is with a sander with a table that is 90degs from the face of the sander. Then just sneak up on it while your sanding it .OK? LOL

rmf, if you feel like sharing a bit more information and i understand if you think i am asking for too much... i have to take a shot at picking your brain if you're up for it :-).

i saw an old post you made about determining the diameter of pipe to use for an na header. i was wondering what techniques you use to find the optimum length of the runners on a turbo header...

I am likely going to be buying burns design services for a turbo header I will be working on since i think it is reasonably priced but i was just interested in hearing your thoughts on pipe length. I've seen you say 26" on an na header in the past but what for turbo apps?

thanks in advance
