Default air filter for my turbo

alright i have a boosted b18 motor with a t3 super 60 turbo on it, the turbo was so big that i had to shave some of the block to make it fit, but my problem is now with the 3" inlet there is no clearance to put any piping to atatch a filter because the fans are so close....my question is.....ive heard of a type of filter you just atatch straight to the turbo inlet side and its just a flat filter made to fit different sizes i know this might not be as good but does anyone know where i can find one?

Try to stay away from those foam mushroom looking ones, a while back someone posted a large restriction on the dyno due to one, and I think someone else said their turbo sucked one in and broke the turbo.

If you don't want to fab up an intake tube and put a filter where you can fit it, try different sites (atpturbo, ebay, i have no idea really) for a type of filter you are looking for, or last resort you can always run a screen. good luck

yeah im running a screen right now but there is only so much that does
what i was trying to explain before is something along the same lines as what a screen does but its more of a filter....someone was telling me about them......not the mushroom ones

I have the same problem, I just installed a turbo in my b18 and had to shave the block in order for it to fit. Its impossible for me to fit a filter on the turbo because it hits the little bar thing that comes off the tranny. Anyways I would really like to know where to get one of those too.

disconnect the bracket and leave it hanging...its supported on there enough once the filter is jammed in there! works like a charm

I had a similar problem with my Revhard setup. I ended up buying a 45-degree silicone elbow with a 3" inlet. The silicone is flexible enough that it bends in a little where the clutch bleed valve pokes out.

I bought a K&N universal filter with a 3" inlet, and used a short section of 3" aluminum pipe as an interior coupler for the elbow and filter to clamp onto.

Elbow was from ATPturbo.com, if I remember right. Used their T-bolt clamps too. You can check through K&N's site to get a part number and order from your local autoparts store.

Yeah I read about that fella who picked up like 40whp from switching air filters (dyno tested!). He had one of those yellow foam like mushroom filters. stay away form the shrooms..
