I think my clutch has seized up on the pressure plate. No matter how many times I press the pedal, the clutch still won't release and let me go into gear. Clutch fluid level is fine as before. Didn't touch the transmission. All I did was engine performance work with engine still in the car.

My idea is to open up the flywheel service plate and see if I can tap out the clutch/flywheel with a hammer and a big long screwdriver/prybar while spraying some brake cleaner in there. That or start the car in gear, but that seems scary to break something after doing all this engine work. Anyone have any ideas what it might be? Or if it is what I said it is, what's the best way to remedy it? I know my clutch is fine, doesn't need to be replaced.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it is releasing, just not enough cus the clutch lever moves, the clutch pedal goes all the way down and up, and the slave cylinder does push the clutch lever. Maybe it's gotten weak and it's not pushing it enough. I'll start replacing the clutch cylinder and slave cylinder since I've been meaning to replace those anyways when I got an EX/Si tranny to swap in...but I guess it looks like I need them sooner than I thought.

Anyone had this problem before? How'd you guys fix it? It's a 95 Civic DX Mini-me d15b7/d16z6 conversion.

 

replace the clutch and brake system cylinders -- clutch could also go bad (i had it stick once and it was a goner) or just simply try bleeding the clutch

 

OK I replaced the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder with new ones, and still the same problem but at least the clutch pedal feels much better than before.

So I guess I was right the first time, the clutch is stuck on the pressure plate with rust. Either that or the release bearing is seized with rust. Dammit, I really wanted to test drive my baby with its newfound power. My fault for hose spraying water in there to flush all the clutch dust out.

Looks like I'll try and see if I could tap the flywheel with a hammer with the clutch pedal pressed down and see if that breaks the clutch loose. If that doesn't work, I guess it's time to pull the DX transmission and do that EX/Si transmission (or JDM d15b LSD trans), Stage 2 clutch, and Aluminum flywheel combo I was holding off until I get more funds. Dammit!! Looks like she'll be down again for another month.

Put your throwout bearing in right? trust me its pretty common mistake

 

Like I said, system is bled properly and I never touched the tranny. The release bearing might be ok since the fork lever moves about an inch and a half when i press the pedal. I think the clutch disc is stuck to the flywheel plate face cus I washed down the clutch with water and let it sit for a month. I should have released the clutch with the pedal down to the floor while it was drying to keep the clutch off the flywheel. Damn, this sux.

 

Can someone do me a quick favor and take a pic of their clutch fork lever with the clutch pedal all the way down so I could see how far it's supposed to go to release the clutch? Much appreciated.

 

I've done countless searches on this and many people have had the same problems but no solutions.

I think my pressure plate fins are rust seized and won't spring back to disengage the clutch. I guess it's time for a new clutch.
