Default '97 HX cat/header question

well me 97 hx threw 4 codes... and one of them being catalyst is not reading correctly. my car is rusted to **** in the motor bay so i am replacing my cat and secondary o2 seeing as how they both have 140,xxx on em... so, with the cat being placed right under the exhaust manifold on the hx, i was wondering if it is alright for me to convert to a cat under the car and just extend the wiring for my secondary o2 to fit right behind the cat... i cant find a good reason for honda sticking the catalytic converter so close to the head, and to replace it with the same is soooooo expensive. so i was gonna buy an ex/lx/dx obd2 manifold and convert it to cat under the car... any opinions or suggestions would be great.
thanks

I don't think it will just bolt right up because the b pipe on hx/lx/dx is longer than on an ex because the ex pipe makes room for the cat. You could probably cut a chunk off and weld the cat onto the pipe instead.

yeah i know it wont bolt right up, i have to re-weld part of the exhaust anyway.
i bought a universal cat too so it doesnt even have flanges...
thanks for the responses though!

Yeah, shouldn't be a problem if you know what you are doing. I don't see why Honda did the cat that way either and like you said, replacements are effin expensive! I'll probably do somethi8ng like this or just run it with an aftermarket header and no cat when mine goes. Let me know how it works out for you.
