my timing bet snapped on me!!
what are the chances my valves are bent? i really don't want to pull the head to find out either. should i just replace the belt and hope for the best or should i check the head first?

and what rpm were you at

My guess would be that you have bent valves. My timing belt broke just starting up the car. After putting the new one on, I went about one minute and the check engine light came on. A compression test showed a bent valve on cyl#3. Now, I would probably just replace the valve. Back then, I chose to just do a head swap. Cost me about $120 and fixed the problem. But I'm assuming yours is the GSR from your s/n, so it would be cheaper for you to just replace the valve than to do a swap unless you can find a head for cheap.
I have a writeup somewhere on how to replace the head if you haven't done it before.

if traveling faster than idle... chances are pretty damn good you bent valves. but the severity depends on the rpm you were going....
dont put the timing belt on just to find out your gona have to take it off again and do lots of work.... just do it all now. that way you have a new headgasket too....
what kind of engine? b18b or b18c?
