So here I am, wiring up my greddy turbo timer. I get it mostly done .. the wiring is basically golden, and everything looks in order. I hook the battery back up, turn the key to accessory and the greddy TT seems to operate fine. I start the car, mess with the greddy settings, and decide its time to see if it actually keeps the car idling. Turn the key off, and the engine immediately shutsoff, so apparently the TT wasn't functioning as I expected.

I thought perhaps the wiring was at fault, so I grab my test light and start prodding lines. I'm getting nothing on them and worry that maybe my test light had gone out. So, I test it on a line I know should work (the black/white wire coming from the key cylinder wiring) I can't seem to get a reading off the line so I assume my light is broken and proceed to detach from the wire. I think I must have bridged between that wire and the steering column bracket, because immediately after trying to pull it out of the wire I get a tiny bit of smoke and a slightly burned wire. I'm not positive that's what caused it, but that seems like what it was.

Of course, now the key cylinder seems not to be working. Turning they key into position does not provide power to accessories, and the fuel pump doesn't prime. And, naturally, the engine won't crank.


Did I destroy my key cylinder? What is likely to have occurred when I burned that wire?

Feeling like a jackass at the moment.
