Default intercooler question

what exactly does an intercooler do, and would it have any effect on a non turbo'ed car.. i was just wondering cus i might be able to pick one up for pretty cheap, but my car isn't turbo'ed, but if it kept it cooler or cools the tranny i'd get it. Is and intercooler and a tranny cooler different?

Waste of time and waste of money. It will do absolutly nothing since you do not have a turbo. Besides how would you bolt it onto the car? What made you think of getting one anyways?

friends car got stolen before he had the chance to put it on, so hes selling it for cheap. I just want a tranny cooler but i figured out they aren't the same thing. I have an auto tranny with 110k + on it and i just changed the fluid, but i want to see if i can get a cooler for it to make it last longer

I bought a really nice tranny cooler at advance auto last year. It was the fin kind not the basic tubing models. It was small and panted black and fitted perfect in my bumper. So far tranny runs great and no rust only got it for 70 i think.

Intercooler takes hot, pressurized air from the turbo and cools it down... that's it.

It wouldn't be a good move to put it on an NA car because it would be harder for an N/A car to draw air through an intercooler than having it forced through by a turbo. Yes, it would work (in the sense that you could physically do it), but you will not see any gains from it (mostly because an intercooler can really only cool air down to the ambient tempurature, which you can see the same results from with a cold air intake). If you just wanted to look cool with your FMIC and don't care about performance gains... go for it!
