I just replaced my distributor, Cap, coil, and rotor. No matter how hard I try I cant get the timing right. When I think I got it, I go to pull out and it keeps back firing. What is going on, and where exactly is the pointer to find the TDC? Also if the white and red marks are no longer visible, how do you find them on the Crank pulley?
Get a very bright light and look at your crank pulley and you will see 3 very small colored notches hopefully and one white notch about an inch to the right of the three. Once you get a good look at the timing marks, you should be able to recognize them when you use the timing light.
The single white notch to the right is used to set the crank pulley at TDC when you install your timing belt. The three colored grooves to the left of it represent 14, 16, and 18 degrees before top dead center. These are used to set your ignition timing with the timing light.
Did you mark where the distributor was on the adjustment bolt before removal? This really helps so that your car will hopefully idle decent so that setting the ignition timing is much easier with the timing light.

try putting the dizzy in the middle, not all the way advanced....
also if for some reason the colored lines arent visible the grooves should still be there............
