Default Valve guides???

Okay, my engine(B18C1) has been smoking alot when VTEC engages. SO, I went and had the compression checked and had them do a leakdown test as well. I got back sold numbers in both areas. So, why am I still smoking??? My mechanic said it's probably the valve guides. Is this true???

It should be seals if its the valve area...Could be rings, even if the comp is good...

How could it be the rings even if comp was good??? I thought if the valve seals were bad, then it smoked mainly on decel. So should I replace my rings while I'm at it??? This is weird, both comp and leakdown tests came back good, and my car is still smoking!!!!

It could still be rings because your compression ring could be good but your oil control rings could be shot, leaving you with good compression but excesssive oil burn off. All hondas will burn some oil in vtec however.

replace your valve seals...vlave seals smoke on start-ups, idle, and on engine decel(vacuum).

I'm only smoking at high RPM's. Am I losing any power due to this?

Oil control rings? Should I have them replace those? If my valve guides are bad, does that mean I need new valves? Any insight????

If your guides are bad that does not mean you need to replace the valves, but not a bad idea while you are there. I bent a few valves and I made my car sit for 2 months but came back with a ported/polished head with all Ferrea valvetrain.

Hmmm... Well, I don't want to spend money that I don't have to. What about springs and retainers???

I can only do as much as my wallet allows. I mean, what do I really need to replace when the head is apart. I have $1000 to spend on parts and labor. Some guy told me if I upgraded the springs and retainers then I'd be save to rev past 9k. I don't know about that..... So what do I do?
