Default HKS Silent fitted but hangs V. Low!!!

I had this fitted today and i'm not happy with how low it hangs in the mid section. We tried everything to get it to sit a little higher but couldnt. Everything lines up fine and it went on without a problem, its just so low....2" off the ground at the rear resonator, which means its going to scrape on speed bumps as my front mud flaps are 2.1" off the ground and they rub

Can this be the way its designed to hang? I cant raise the rear of my car any as its as high as it will go on my spoon N1 coilovers

Another solution is to cut the hangers off and re weld them on at a shorter distance, thus sucking up the exhaust to the belly of the car.

That is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure you know to get that fixed before you damage the system beyond repair.

that totally doesn't look right.

Is it possible to take the exhaust off and take some pictures of the system off the car to see if maybe it's defective and HKS didn't weld on some hangers?

It sure looks like they missed one hanger at the end of the secondary resonator.

All the hangers are there and being used as should be...
I think its on correctly but i'll get the car up on the lift again on monday and double check again. The b-pipe that bolts onto the cat is actually curved, its not dead straight, it bends down towards the back of the car for some reason

I just went out and had another look underneath to be certain all hangers were being used and they are. I think that possibly due to the size of the resonator on the b-pipe that it has to sit lower as the resonator is huge and wouldnt fit up neatly into the tunnel for the exhaust....i cant see any other reason for it being that low.

Was this designed as a race application or for street use? The reason I ask is that either or, and you may be good, but if driving a lowered car (with an exhaust made for a smoother track surface) on public roads then it's not going to be a good idea. Hmmmm. Hope that make sence.

Its the HKS Hi-Power 'Silent' which is a street exhaust (JASMA approved) I'm sending pics to the place i bought it from and have them contact HKS to ask if its normal or did i get a dud...

I had the same problem with my R with the same exhaust. I simply managed to cut the hanger phoset, which pulled everything up about an inch. It still sat a little low but much better. I think its simply the way it was desighned. I think the hangers are welded to high from the factory only because my apexi exhaust i had prior had similar dimensions but the hangers were cut lower ( and we all know apexi exhaust sags a bit ) Your R looks good man, keep up the solid work

i had good ground clearance with the resonators on my car, the problem point was the front edge of the muffler cannister, it was so huge it would actually scrape before the resonators did

so driving slow and across the speed bump is a must with 15" rims

Thanks...at least i know its not something wrong with the exhaust. I'll get the hangers cut and re-welded higher up tomorrow.

i think my exhaust runs straight/level, so are you going to reweld all the hangers or just the rear resenator?
if the rear resenator would be raised, will the other pipes fit?

If possible, take after pictures at the same angle so we can compaire. I'd also like to know much more you able to raise the exhaust up.

Try disconnecting the b-pipe from the cat and then using a jack to raise and hold up the b-pipe at the first bend then go ahead and bolt it back up to the cat. I've had this problem with a few exhaust I have installed and the method I have type always corrected the problem.

Do you think the rear resonator will fit in the section it's designed for?

I ask this because I was hoping to add another resonator to my exhaust in that exact location.

Roughly how long is the rear resonator, if you don't mind taking measurements.

Post up pics are the hangers are cut.

Ok got the problem sorted today...Heres how (it was pretty simple in the end)

I unbolted the rear muffler section first. There are 2 hangers on the resonator on the B-pipe. Theyre fixed to the top of the pipe work, so i got a hollow bar and slid it over each hanger and bent them each down approx 3/4", when i lined up the rear muffler section it had the effect of raising it approx 1.5"
What i then discovered was that i had the muffler section hanging on the lower hanger (the one affixed to the car) there are actually 2 hangers, which i didnt see when fitting it the other day, so the rubber slid easily onto the upper hanger and lined the flange for the rear section perfectly with the b-pipe.
I had measured how low the rear resonator was on saturday and it was exactly 2" off the ground and way too low, so today after adjusting it, it now measures 3.25" off the ground so its been raised sufficiently to avoid me hitting it off speed bumps (well most of them)

I'm glad to see you got the fitment issues sorted.

How loud is it compared to the stock ITR exhaust?

Its so long since i've heard a stock exhaust on an ITR that i cant remember how loud/quiet they were. It is however very quiet, a very low low deep note, and on cruising at 60/70mph theres nothing, its dead silent. At WOT the engine note drowns out what little exhaust note there is. I'm delighted with it as i was getting tired of the drone of my last exhaust

Keep an eye on the exhaust pipe yellowing your bumper over time since they are in contact with one another.

I saw that and though "oy!" I'd be worried about the tip melting the bumper cover.
