HKS SSQV or Tail 50mm BOV???
I have no experience with either and haven't been able to find any useful info. So far, all I found was that the Tial 50mm is great for quick pressure release because of its size. However, I love the way the HKS SSQV sounds! And they are both equal in price.
Is the HKS comparable to the Tial...which would you guys prefer? Any suggestions or recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

It would depend on how much boost you plan to run, and with what turbo. If you are looking to run like 30psi on a built motor, the Tial is the way to go. But if you are just looking to run 15psi or less, the HKS should be fine.
just get the Tial....i had one, but decided not to use it. I bought an RFL instead....guess what, i just bought another new Tial to replace the RFL...lol
Either one is great, but personally i like the look of the Tial better too

Thanks for the info!
Sorry should've added more info...I am looking to purchase a gt28rs or gt2871 or t3/t04e, and I only want 350hp max with a b16.

Then you should be okay with the HKS. I would also recommend the Tial, but if you like the sound of the HKS, then stick with what you like. That should do fine with that turbo.
the hks is my favorite, sound and function, BUT now with my setup and so far close to 30 psi, the tial is the only way to go. with the 28rs, you will like the hks ssq.

performance wise, the Tial will prob do better at higher boost.
I have run 30psi on my HKS without any problems at all. So I cant knock on that one either. Either or are very good valves
IMO HKS sound ricey sometimes on lower HP cars.

That's good to know! I've only heard it on a twin turbo RX7 and it sounded sweeeeeeet!

what makes the HKS no good at high boost??
in case you didn't know, the HKS releives pressure by the plunger going down into the airstream, instead of up. so any amount of pressure only helps to seat the valve more, making it more suitable to high boost applications
also, it is held on by a c-clip in a groove similar to the way a honda wheel bearing is held in

It sounds mean as hell on my Supra too. but I didnt like it soo much on my ITR when it was lower boost. Some STI's I hear them on sound like a sneeze too.
I'm in the same torn decision. I'm going to be running a b18c with an sc-61 to about 13 psi and ~350 whp. I've heard that the HKS causes compressor surge and leaks a little. It didn't get a very good review from Sport Compact Car. Although I can get a good condition hks bov for cheap so I'd like to think it'd be ok. What you guys think?
I owned the HKS one and had no problems with it at 27 psi. I switched to the tial because i feel more comfortable with it at higher hp levels.
The only bad thing i can say about the HKS is that the retaining c clip is a BITCH . I've broke/bent numerous sets of snap ring pliers. The only way i have found is to use pick tools and a pair of pliers and hope that you dont stab one through a body part when you slip.

its weird i always considered the HKS to be the best BOV on the market because of its pull-type release valve but this thread leans towards the Tial. does anyone have any first hand experience with an HKS BOV failing?
just wondering how does the adjustment screw on the HKS work? screw in for earlier release, out for a later release? I know it preloads the spring but i dunno which way does what....
Yeah the cclip is a bitch but i love how the SSQV flutters at lower boost and is distinct at higher boost

been running my hks for 2 years now with no problems

Were running the tial on my road race car, and it seems to handle low boost quite well. Low boost in my case is anything between 7 and 11psi. So really in the end it comes down to what you want yours to sound like.
