P30 Help...Yes I searched...Bought a jdm p30(obd1)...Different # code from other p30s ive seen?-Help
Wsup guys...
...I just got a hold of a used obd1 jdm p30 (supposed to be virgin, but thats not the topic of discussion here) for my b16 sir-ii swap in my eg hatch...
...The guy I bought it off of told me it was what I said above, fine...I get home though to compare the number bar code whatever thing to other jdm p30 ecus that ive seen for sale on honda tech...
...My code is exactly as follows... 37820-P30-N01
280-402827
...Seems to be a p30, fair enough...After lookin around in archived threads however, I found two supposed jdm obd1 p30 ecus also for sale , with somewhat similar but still different number codes....
...One read... 37820-P30-960
477-100331
...And another read... 37820-P30-010
470-202842
...Obviously the first two sequences are all the same, which leads me to believe they are all obd1 jdm p30s...but do the other numbers have any significance other than maybe what number, in terms of total p30s, that ecu was in the honda production line?...Just wanna make sure Im good...

Well hatchi...after that suggestion I looked around, and dug a little deeper...
....And I found this thread, in the archives...
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1082468
...Now, according to the number theory that the guy had in that thread (and im not saying he isnt right, he probably is) , my ecu is a 5spd, due to the fact that the 2nd 3 digit code is N01...and thus, under 50...
....However, according to the picture in that thread, with the ecu being unmasked, and the auto ecus having those 3 black clips as opposed to manuals having one... Well, I opened my p30, and it seems to be configured differenently, with the clips in different spots...Also, my ecu has neither one clip (5 spd) nor 3 (auto) it has two.... Can any1 help shed light on this?....

N = factory reprogrammed.
PLEASE please take out the factory soldered in EEprom very carefully and read it. These are the ECUs that PGMFI.org wants reads from.
If you don't know how to do that let me know, we can work out something.

doesn't really help but
92-5 ECUs (P28, P30, P61, P72, P91, P08)
5spd = 000, 001, 002, 003, A00, A01, A02, C00, C01, C02, J00, J01, J02, G00, G01
Auto = J50, J51, 901, 902, C50, C51, C52, A50, A51, A52, L50, L51, G51
96-00 ECUs (P2E, P2P, P2J, P72)
5spd = 000, 001, 002, 003, A00, A01, A03, C00, C01, C02, C03, J00, J01, J02, A11, C11
Auto = A70, A71, A72, A91, A92, C70, C71, C72, C91, C92
from the patterns we can learn the following:
first letter = country of orgin
J = Japan
C= Canada
A=USA
G=Europe
second digit, if 5, 7, 9 then ecu is auto usually
third digit denotes the version/variation

Eww that thing is ugly, but yeah, listen to relic, I got a factory chipped ecu once but I hurt one of the legs trying to get the chip out,
, I still have it around somewhere, I ought to try and repair it.

...Thanks for the info guys, but im still a little lost...Its ugly?...I may just be a total idiot, but I dont really get the meaning behind that, is there something wrong w/ the ecu?...Why does it seem ugly...and it has an N in the code, so it is factory reprogrammed, meaning thats something i should worry about?...
...The only thing that is sticking with me right now is that it is a factory reprogrammed ecu...

I just said ugly cuz it doesn't look like a p28, take off the knock board (the smaller board, just undo it and lift it up) and take a picture.
Factory reprogramming was fairly common, mainly for emissions (I think), but never really drastically different.

looks like a JDM P30 to me. nothing ugly about it.
the part you are worried about is nothing. factory reprogrammed is usually for some special thing that someone requested or an emissions related thing. Typically not a big deal, but those little changes help those of us that are trying to map the honda ECU for tuning purposes. (see Crome/Uberdata)
like SVOboy said, lift the knock board and take a pic. I'm betting there is a chip soldered in place on the external EEPROM location. (bottom right of second pic)
