Default Ever happen to you?

Yesterday i was changing the oil on my gsr myself for the first time and my old gasket on the oil filter was stuck on and when i started the car the two gaskets were touching each other and oil squirted down onto the floor! My qeustion is should i have cleaned the oil off my engine somehow and will the oil spilled in my engine bay do damage. i've driven the car before changing the oil, grabbed the oil filter then when i got it off I decided it was too hot and dropped it, needless to say oil everywhere, just drop some wood shavings on the oil and sweep it up.

i did the same exact thing about 3 years ago and made a post about it. Apparently, it was a common thing becuase a lot of people responded to my thread saying that they've been in the same boat.

the oil shouldnt do any damage to the engine bay, as long as it wasnt an extremely excessive amount, the oil should just "burn off" after 20mins of driving...

I haven't done that, but I was putting a quart in one time when I was low and my hands were slippery and I dropped a whole quart on the motor. Just put another quart in and drove around and burnt the rest off. You should be okay.

try to pressure wash your engine bay a bit, ... or jack it back up and spray the main spots down with brake cleaner.

Normally the old gasket wont stick if you lube it with oil prior to installation

dont feel stupid cause i did the same thing! haha but yeh i started the car after the oil change to check and started hearing a squeeking noise in the engine bay, thought it was a belt, but looked under and there was a puddle of oil on the floor. Then found out that i double gasket the filter. I hear other people doing the same so its all good.

I work at a oil change place and most of the new employees will do it once, then they learn. No damage will be done, but cleaning it off ASAP would def help save u from the HORRIBLE smell.

man, I was changing my friend's oil at her house. I did everything, started it up and all kinds of oil was spraying over the garage.

Basically

8 quarts of Full Synthetic Later, I find the extra gasket and take it off. Lesson Learned.
