Default detonation

Hi, just wondering what is the best way to get rid of detonation. take out some timing? I havent adjusted the timing at all, still at stock but i was using 89 octane gas until recently when i went to 87. now i can hear pinging at low rpm. from 1k to about 3k, only in 1st and 2nd gear.

the motor is a stock d16y7 w/intake.

any suggestions?

thanks
