It will throw a code but also drive all shitty and the idle will be all screwed up. At least when I tried.

Which ECU you have to buy is depending on the year of your car. (OBD2a/OBD2b)
and like SkoundrelUSA said... the auto trans ECU will throw a CEL and will not run right.
If you really want to fool it into thinking the auto trans is there you might be able to but picking up a manual trans ECU would be a ton easier.

Reasons why you can NOT use auto obd2 ecus for manual cars.
1. Auto is for auto cars (duh)
2. Auto ecu runs 3 wire IAC while manual runs 2wire (aka very bad idle)
3. Auto ecu looks for the auto solinoids (sp?)
4. Because i said so ::shrugs::
