d16z6 on 88 dx tranny?
will it fit? on http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/tech/sohcvtec.html it says it wont fit on 88 tranny because they have different number of teeth on the spindle. has anyone tried it? am i better off just getting an 89-91 si/dx tranny. ihave an 88 civic dx hb and im too poor to do a dohc vtec swap. please help
..it'll work, just gotta use the 88 clutch assembly.
ok ok ok.....so....you guys are CERTAIN (I have had many different answers to this question)....I am doing this same swap into my HF...and I wasn't too concerned about the gearing as I'm more about highspeed more than accelleration anyways...and don't feel like replacing the tranny at the moment....but all I have to do to make my 88 HF tranny work with the D16Z6 is to use the clutch off of the 88 and not the Z6? just want some final clarification so I don't go off searching for a tranny at the moment....I was planning on replacing the clutch w/ a high performance one anyways, so I just get one for an 88 CRX and I'm set?
i am putting the same engine in my 88 dx. only i am using a 89 Si tranny, race clutch and flywheel. i was going to say, when i was asking questions about the tranny and engine stuff. they say something about the 92-95 flywheel being bigger or something? so you will probably have to use the flywheel from the 88 as well. maybe even have it lightened a little bit. i am planning on having the final drive from the dx put in the Si as soon as I find the money, this way i have the best of both worlds...how exactly are you doing the swap? like as far as wires, vtec engagment, and ecu? hope i was a little help...
so will the flywheel from the d15 HF bolt up to the D16Z6? I would think so since they are both D-series blocks, but just want to make sure.
I am going to run a Non-OBD to OBD1 conversion harness with the P28 ECU..

actually I couldn't keep the flywheel AND the pressure plate off of the D16Z6 as it was an automatic originally and I don't have any of the clutch parts. So I will just have to bolt up the flywheel off of the D15, which is no problem at all as long as it will fit. Thanks.
i prefer the dx my self. the longer gears let you hang in vtec a little longer, and you don't spin as bad out of the hole. and the dx gearing is the exact same as the 92-95 ex/si gearing. the dx does really good for me, times speak for themselves.
