MUGEN MR5 disassembly question....
For those that have had or restored them, anybody taken out the bolts/rivets that hold the face to the barrell?
I'm cleaning up my set and am tempted to take out all of the bolts and just paint the faces. Instead, with the first wheel, i taped off every bolt head, which was not fun.
Should i be weary of taking the bolts out, seeing as how they are about what 15 years old? I loosened a few, but not sure if i want to pretty much disassemble the wheels entirely. Any input would be appreciated.
example pic, not my set.

You created a thread instead of just askin me!? Well hmm....when I torqued them I started at 15 ft. lbs in a star pattern and then went to 23. Pull em apart man, you're not gonna hurt them. Sell me your CP10's.

I had a set of 15" Black MR5's that were in need of a refurb. I used my torque wrench to measure how tight the bolts were and the average was around 12 ft/lbs.
This is the setting I decided to go with. Any higher than this I believe could strip the threads of the aluminum rim. I did search for replacement bolts but could not find any. I soaked mine in a kitchen cleaning solution for a few days and although they were not perfectly clean they were pretty close.
I noticed that when I removed the bolts there was evidence of a thread-lock / loctite compound that was used on the original bolt installation at the factory. I decided to use loctite on the re-assembly.
The wheels were taken apart in front of the TV one night, the outer rims were sent to be polished and the centres were sand blasted and re-powder coated black.
re-assembly is the exact opposite. I used loctite on each bolt and did them up in a criss cross formation.
I was fortunate enough to have small remains of the original silver stickers that were fitted to the wheels. I had always thought that these were vinyl but it turned out that they were in fact cut from very thin aluminum sheet probably with a laser cutter or maybe punched - im not an expert in this field!
I wanted replacement stickers on there and I would have had more luck winning the lotto than finding original replacement stickers so the only option I had was to manufacture some replacements. I copied all of the 4 wheel logos into illustrator. each one luckily had different parts missing. I traced the artwork and made an almost exact replica that my sign shop cut from silver vinyl.
The JDM purists out there will probably spot the stickers are replicas upon close inspection as the vinyl cutter cannot be as precise on small areas as a laser would be. I personally think they serve their purpose well!
Anyway enough of me talking crap have a look at the finished photos:
