all i could find at the auto store was automatic trany fluid. mobil 1 synthetic dexron, mercon stuff. can i change out my fluid w/ that even though i have a manual transmission. honda has a way of not tell you this stuff so you buy their fluids. what am i supposed to use?

and you need two

you need 3 qaurts and you can also use motor oil. some people will say you cant but i drove mine with 5w-30 in it for over a year nothing ever went wrong and no grindind at all and i was pretty hard on it.
^not really, i think its 2.1 quarts from the manual. on mine, usually it starts to overflow at the end of the second quart.
3 quarts you could probably get in there if you really wanted to go from the VSS or doing a complete rebuild

wow , come on people there are may choices us honda owners have.
honda mtf < if your a stubborn *** ************, its expensive
and it is a 10w/30 base not a 5w as someine else stated
10w30 any kind- regular or synthetic, i have just recently switch to synthetic. i think it might be just a little bit better at preventing driveline power loss than regular 10w or honda mtf ever could
please dont use just synchromesh its bad by its self. it needs to be about 1.5qt honda mtf or reg. 1ow and then the remaining qt synchromesh. the reason being that syncromesh is a lighter weight oil, this however may be the main reason why it temporarily relieves grinding too!!

^^That's because the capacity is 1.9 q.
The owner's manual says you can put 10w30 oil into the tranny, which is always available everywhere.

no it's 10-30
Honda MTF is by far the best...it has extra additives that 10-30 doesn't cough up the extra 6 bucks and move on

I don't know what the big deal about ppl wanting to use regular oil in their tranny's just cause you can.
come on, how expensive is 10 bux for freaking 20,000 miles of tranny fluid
if you are complaining about that, like cd5 jeebs said "move on"
ppl will spend 60 bux on a shift **** (from the other thread) but basic maintance on their car.
GM syncromesh FM is just fine for me. been using it on/off for 2+ years. no problems yet (and i track the car 2 times each year for a whole weekend) but if you don't need that well then just stick with Honda MTF.

I use Honda MTF and buy 3 quarts because I am ****.
I drain, put bottom plug in, fill with 1/2 quart, drain again, replace bottom plug, refill and use less than 2 quarts (having the reamining 1/3 from the 3rd bottle just in case), and torque both bolts to spec.
On oil changes I also use an extra quart to "flush" out the oil pan.
