Default Is this rod knock?

I have a 98 EX with the stock d16y8. It has about 115k miles on it. Honestly, I dont check the oil often at all because frankly, I don't care too much about the old d16. But yesterday I had my window down and realized there was a pretty loud knock when taking off. So I checked my oil and I had about none. I filled it up with oil, started it up and its still there. While idleing, I put my finger on all of the plug wires and you could feel a very noticable knocking on the 3rd cylinder from the left. You couldnt feel anything in any of the other 3 cylinders. So i pulled off that plug wire and noticed the plug was loose. I tightened it up and you could then no longer feel the knock when holding your finger on the top of the plug wire above the cylinder. But anyway, it knocks at about 2k rpms in first 3k in 2nd and I havent taken it higher than that in any gear. Its also there sometimes when idleing and downshifting. It is a pretty loud knock.

I'm more or less wondering if its time to swap a B16 in and how long this thing will last before something really goes wrong. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

if its rpm dependent ......in which i mean when you rev the motor the knocking gets faster you spun a rod bearing ....i would advise you not drive it

If you want to blow the engine up, depending on how hard you drive it it could last anywhere from a couple days to a month or so. When it does blow, a rod is likely to go through the block. So hopefully you aren't (I like d series, so I hope) in the middle of no where when it happens.

well if you do swap to b16 or whatever, you better stay on top of checking the oil. I think you'll have to do it atleast once a day just to get in a routine of doing it in general.

yea definately a rod. I blew up a d16 a couple weeks ago and yes do not let it knock alot, mine lasted about two weeks of nothing but shifting at 2,500 rpm's and then finally blew, so i would advise you not to drive the car, dont quote me on this but i dont think your are going to need to worry about the rod slinging through the block.

It almost sounds like its knocking on/in the valve cover, could this be piston slap?

I drove my D16z6 into the ground on the way home from a HPDE. It made it 45mins at 120+ km/h before it actually came apart.

Check your valve lash. And if its a rod knock, it should be louder when you listen to the botom of engine.
