So you would risk having the cover fall off in the combustion chamber?

You remove the cover.... its just a cover
You can get replacement covers from some of the injector cleaning guys if you want. But its just a shield to protect the pintle while the injector is out of the car.
Doesn't affect injector at all.

I'm sure it wouldn't affect the function of the injector.
But personally I wouldn't put that in my car. I don't want any broken plastic bouncing in the combustion chamber.

You can easily have the injectors serviced and rebuilt for as little as $12 a piece. They'll even flow test it for you.

whether that part requires repair or not.. if you suspect too much milage/abuse on these injectors.. have them tested/cleaned/balanced before installation.
I dont know...why does Honda put retaining screws on the rotors?
It does not affect the "spray pattern" at all. The cap is there to protect the pintle. If you took an injector out of your motor now and ripped off the cap and put it back in there would be no difference.

thats the only thing.. the design of the injector is build with that shield to aim the spray of fuel out torwards the air flow, and enter the combustion chamber.
if you HAD to use it.. i would litterally break off the brittle part of that sheild, and then put it in. i too wouldn't want that plastic goin into my motor..
now, is it performancely bad? the reason i know alittle about this, i had DSM 450's on my D16Z in my old hatchback boosted on 11PSI, and it was tunned on the dyno wiht a 12.5 AFR. so that shield didn't affect it that much.. and i had 2 that were broken.

bottom line, its still a good injector and can be used if the housing is taken off...BUT... if your a perfectionist and you have the ability to get it taken care of, then i would do so.
...or you can just sit back with no understanding of what, why, or how and say "honda r&d made it so its mandatory"...that works too.

like others have said, That piece does not affect injector performance. Check the tip to make sure it was not affected though. Break that piece off and be happy.
If the seller will send you a new one, cool. He is a nice guy. thats like receiving an exaust manifold gasket and having it bent or missingg a rivet. Makes no difference when the motor is together, but when you knnow its not perfect, you bitch
