Default Our ITRs are getting old

Someone asked me the other day if I was planning to run my car into the ground. This kind of offended me and I responded by telling him I would replace anything to keep it on the road.

The question did get me thinking that a lot of our cars (including mine) have passed 100,000 miles and may need something other than regular maintenace to keep them feeling as sharp as they did when new.

So my question is what parts, other than regular maintence items would need replacing past 100,000 miles? Please list things you have replaced that made you say "Wow, I didn't even know that was worn out, it feels 100x better now!"

Window Trim is something I like to keep up with. For some reason tarnished trim really bugs me.

Also I really like new steering wheels. Nothing worse than leather once it turns hard, and slick.

Suspension and bushings make the biggest difference.

Good set of tires and brakes next

Spark plugs and wires and

Lastly interior depending on how beat up it is.

Just refreshed my ITR so I know.

I'd be a little taken aback by that question, too. Look at that pic.. she still looks young & prime. Like you, anything the R needs to stay on the road, it will get.

I second the mounts, springs, shocks, and bushings. They sloowly degrade and you don't really notice, until one day you're like, "this thing feels sloppy". New ones make a big difference.

<<-------- Just replaced every bushing on the car, all new balljoints, hubs and wheel bearings (with some ARP studs), and an all new suspension. Car is just past 100K, and a lot of the other maintenance has already been performed... phew I'm tired.

Some Mugen, the front LCAs, and rear trailing arm bushing (the big one). The rest are all OEM.

For my bushing replacements I went with all MUGEN.

Thanks Clayton!

I'd also recommend replacing the rear trailing arm bushings. I'm not sure of the differences between OEM and Mugen, but I know they are similarly priced so go with Mugen

Window trim is a plus, also the windsheild wipers (metal part). I hate it when they chip, they look like crap. Shifter bushings are always a nice new feel.

I got to do these things. I've gotten over 150k on mine right now. Did you guys really feel a big difference with replacing bushings and such?

Yep 4yrs of daily driving. 2.5yrs of about 80miles a day 5x a week. Then for a year about 50 miles a day 5x a week. I haven't driven alot of miles in the last 6 months. Plus the 46k that was on it when I bought it. That's only driving from work and back. That's not even adding all the other driving miles.

Its probably even more than that but I've been through a few different clusters which really wasn't a good idea. I don't have my stock one cause my brother had it in his GSR than it got stolen and stripped. Oh well, I really don't plan on ever selling my car anyway.

To clear things up my car has already gotten a new motor and tranny once so those don't have near as many miles on them.

Are you on original suspension and motor/tranny mounts? Had anything break?

I'm keeping this car forever so it's good to hear from ppl with lots of miles.

The shocks are fairly new with Eibach springs but the bushings and everything else are all original and have been fine so far. The car feels a little sloppy and I have a slight steering wheel vibration that nobody has been able to diagnose yet. Im thinking it could be the mounts so I will have to check them.

i got the mugen bushings just 'cause i bought them off a friend

a good detail + claybar has always helped me fall back in love with my car and helped her look her best. and regular, scheduled maintenance plus what i do to prep for track days helps her run well (regular fluid changes, brake checks, checking motor health, blabla) 4 years of tracking and still going strong...

Good stuff everyone

I will be looking into bushings/mounts along with:
pistons reringed
clutch
window trim (driver's door)
rear seats due to fading
Front wiper tray

Plus I plan on buying a few stock parts before they stop making them

The thought of disco'd parts freaks me out.

Anyone else notice that the B'stone Potenza RE010s aren't on tirerack.com? I need to call them to see what's going on.
