Ok so my oil pressure has been fine ever since my new rebuild (30psi idle, 83psi 4k+, fully warm). Yesterday I was driving in the rain and I noticed my oil pressure was crazy high, something like 98psi! So i get home let the car sit, turn it on and it works fine, idles at around 60psi cause it was a lil cold but after that it is back to the normal 30/83.

Get up today to go to work, start the car up, cold pressure is 80psi as it should be, start my drive to work. Enter rain. I hit on and off rain all the way to work and my oil psi is going crazy, at 2krpms in 5th gear im getting 99psi+, anything greater then that in gear and im getting 100psi+ (gauge only reads to 100, needle was past it!).... Soon as i put the clutch in pressure drops to 35psi, if i rev with the clutch in to 5k pressure only goes as high as 83psi. As soon as I let the clutch out pressure sails right up to 100+psi in a herky-jerky motion.

No oil leaks, no exposed wiring, i have a relocation kit, wouldnt 100+psi burst the lines?? Is my gauge just shitting on me? Its a "megan racing" gauge...

PLEASE HELP

 

sounds like your sensor doesnt like rain..... is it a mechanical gauge or elc?

 

electronic, its right above the front right tire well and there is no piping or anything blocking the CAI hole, i didint see any water on it but you never know...

Just want to make sure im not ACTUALLY running 100+psi cause thats insane, can the engine even make that much pressure at 2krpms??

I thought it might be the presure relief valve but seeing as how it works fine with the clutch in im assuming thats not the cause.... i just dont want anything to explode (like my oil filter) but there is no way in hell those ss-reinforced rubber relocation lines can hold 100psi or more.... they are soft enough to squeeze by hand...

 

im using a small rsx-s filter could that cause this problem? Its a brand new filter but maybe its bad??

 

my oil pressure when the motor is cold will easily peg my gauge at 100+ psi. running 10w30, brand new oil pump. once it warms up it goes to normal (~80psi WOT). I'm going to try 5w30 on the next oil change to see if the cold pressures reduce at all. HTH

 

yeah my 100psi+ reading is at full warm....

 

double check all your connectors....mite of came loose

 

no leaks, ima try replacing the filter but im open to other ideas

 

for all those with similar issues- i replaced the oil filter and it remedied the problem.... I WAS using a KNN "GOLD" filter, it was 3days old when it **** on me.

Whats wrong with the K & N Gold? I have had one on my car for 700 miles now..... how exactly does an oil filter take a ****?

 

make sure its the gauge and its not the actual pump
if the releif valve on the oil pump got scratched and its being stuck, it will caused that.
happened ot me once on 1st time startup, wich caused the valve to stay closed for a few seconds and destroyed my oil pressure gauge

you sound liek my pressures. but I have a endyn modified pump. Higher pressures will not hurt the motor so don't worrie too much about it. I've been runnign with 110+psi when I hit it hard for a while but again I have a build motor.

 

it was definitely the filter and not the pump or gauge.... replaced with a $3 FRAM and fixed all my issues, pressure is solid at 83psi WOT now...

High pressure may not hurt the motor but i was worried about my turbo

So how did the filter take a ****? I am running this filter and I have no problems but it makes me worry, the only thing I notice is I have a pressure spike when I first get on the throttle my pressure spikes to about 6.5 bar then drops to about 5.5 bar while driving, other than that everything is fine

 

im not sure what caused it to take a **** on me, i have run 3 of their filters before with no issues.... maybe its defective?

Either way I think for a $15 filter the least they can do is some quality-control so defective unit dont get out!

Agreed, you should take it back to where you bought it from and get your monies back

 

I only use factory honda filter, all others suck compaired to it.

i woudl never take a chance on a motor I liek to use anything but oem filters on it. (unless full drag car and you have special setups).
