Default Question about DA integra motor swaps.....

im interested in buying a DA integra coupe shell and dropping some kind of engine into it. im definately not trying to make this a race car, but a little pep would be nice. its mostly going to be a commuter. i figure i can save money, because most integras for sale are like 150k and are asking 2500. im guessin i can buy a shell for 500, spend 1200-1500 to drop and engine in, and have a new engine with low miles and the warranty that comes with most engine shops...

what kind of engine options do i have? i want a basic engine, what are the options and what are the approximate price i should expect to pay. nothing to crazy like 5000$ k20 swaps. what would be cheapest and most economical??

for example

B16- (cost, potential for mods, )
B18- same

check out http://www.zerolift.com they have some jdm engines b16/b18 which will be more expensive than american market but will give you a ball park. look at jdm honda/acura. also look at engine packages to get an idea on mod possibilities. more moderate mod options like the I/H/E packages or more extreme like the preformance package.

yeah it all goes to what you are looking for

b20/b18a/b = not very fast but cheap.... about 1000
h22= heavier (about 150) but 200hp for 2-3k
b18c = light faster more expensive

b18 is an engine code they made them for usdm and jdm.... and no honda motors are "american" they are made in japan

All B and H series motors are made in Japan. The difference between some B series motors in American and Japan is compression ratio. The only way to tell if you have a JDM or USDM motor is to look on the block and there should be a B16A, B18A, B18B, etc... If there is a number after the last letter than the motor is USDM, if there is no number than it is JDM. The only tricky motor is the JDM GSR and Type R, both their block codes are B18C. The only way to tell is to look at the intake manifold and that should give it away.

B16A (JDM) complete swap you can find for around $1500 (HMOtorsonline) this would be your cheapest way to go.

B18A (USDM) you can probably get this motor from Pepboys or Autozone and it would come with a 30 day warranty. I am unsure of price, but it would not be complete. Motor or tranny (I think they sell trannys too)

B20Vtec- B20 longblock is around $500, if you are lucky to find a B16A head or GSR head about $400-600. If you buy a DA shell then you would need a trans (the cheapest I have seen is $450 for a cable tranny) Happen to find a DA w/ motor and trans, you can still use the tranny. And a B16A ecu, PR4 or PW0 I think.

or an expensive choice

B18C5 (USDM)* B18C (JDM) if you could find one*, just the long block is around $3000, you would have to use a cable tranny unless you use the cable/hydro converstion kit

B18C Type R you are looking at between $5000-$5500 for a complete swap. It is hard to find just a Type R long block.

DA motor mounts will bolt up to all of these motors with no modification.
If there is any info they maybe wrong, just let me know anybody!!

well i called up a few shops and asked them how much to put a motor into a 1992 integra, and its all around 1200-1500 total, with tranny and everything

i have no idea what motor it is though....im guessin its just replacin the stock motor, is this a good or bad thing?

ask them what they are putting in!! If they are replacing the stock motor that price seems a little high!! Does it have a warranty?? Probably not.
